To change the server-wide base limit, stop the dedicated server, edit the active PalWorldSettings.ini, change BaseCampMaxNum inside the single OptionSettings=(...) line, save the file, and restart the server. Use BaseCampMaxNumInGuild instead when you want to change the maximum bases available to each guild.

Which setting controls the limit?
Palworld has two separate base-count settings. Confusing them is the most common reason a change appears not to work.

BaseCampMaxNum is a server-wide budget, not a per-player allowance. For example, setting it to 200 allows up to 200 camps across all guilds combined. It does not give every player 200 camps. If one guild needs more camps, its own BaseCampMaxNumInGuild value must also permit them.
Find the active PalWorldSettings.ini file
Windows dedicated server
The active Windows configuration file is:
steamapps\common\PalServer\Pal\Saved\Config\WindowsServer\PalWorldSettings.iniThe exact drive and parent folders depend on where SteamCMD or your server provider installed the server. The important part is the Saved\Config\WindowsServer directory and the file named PalWorldSettings.ini.

Linux dedicated server
On Linux, edit:
steamapps/common/PalServer/Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.iniIn the official Linux setup example, DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini is copied into this LinuxServer directory before it is edited. That template is only a starting point. Pocketpair specifically warns that editing DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini by itself will not affect the running server.
Managed hosts and containers
A hosting control panel may expose the same file through a text editor or a settings form. Some Docker deployments expose the server-wide value as the BASE_CAMP_MAX_NUM environment variable, which maps to BaseCampMaxNum. If a panel regenerates configuration files at startup, make the change in the panel or its environment configuration rather than editing a generated file that will be overwritten.

- Stop the dedicated server cleanly. Use the server console, service manager, host panel, or container command. Do not edit the file while the process is still running; the server may keep the old settings in memory or rewrite the file during shutdown.
- Back up the current configuration. Copy
PalWorldSettings.inito a dated backup such asPalWorldSettings.ini.backup-2026-10-15. A backup lets you restore the previous line if a typo prevents startup. - Open the active file. Choose the path under
WindowsServerorLinuxServer, depending on the operating system. Do not edit only the shipped default template. - Locate the single settings line. The file normally contains one long line beginning with
OptionSettings=(and ending with). Use your editor’s search function forBaseCampMaxNum=. - Replace only the value. For example, change
BaseCampMaxNum=128toBaseCampMaxNum=200. Keep the key inside the existing parentheses and preserve the commas separating options. - Save the file without changing its structure. Do not split the
OptionSettingsexpression into multiple lines unless your host explicitly documents that format. Remove accidental quotation marks or extra punctuation around the number. - Start the server again. Watch the startup log or console for configuration errors, then connect and test placement with a guild that has not reached its separate guild cap.
A minimal example looks like this (the real line contains many other options):
OptionSettings=(BaseCampMaxNum=200,BaseCampMaxNumInGuild=3,...)Changing the first value raises the shared server budget. It does not change the number of camps any single guild can place when that guild is blocked by BaseCampMaxNumInGuild.
Change the maximum bases per guild
If the server has unused capacity but one guild cannot place another camp, edit BaseCampMaxNumInGuild instead:

OptionSettings=(BaseCampMaxNum=128,BaseCampMaxNumInGuild=5,...)Replace the guild value with the permitted number for your build and policy. Pocketpair’s current server guide lists 10 as the maximum for this setting and warns that larger base allowances increase processing load. A guild can still be blocked when the server-wide BaseCampMaxNum budget has been exhausted, even if its per-guild value is higher.
Conversely, increasing BaseCampMaxNum will not give a guild extra slots if BaseCampMaxNumInGuild remains lower. Check both values when diagnosing a placement limit.
What value should you use?
Check the value shipped with your build
Defaults can change between Palworld releases. A Paldb.gg extraction of build 4570950001, taken on September 15, 2026, reports BaseCampMaxNum=128 in that build’s DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini. Treat 128 as a build-specific reference, not a universal default. Read the template and active file installed on your own server before deciding how far to move the limit.

Balance capacity against processing load
Every additional camp can add structures, storage, automation, workers, and simulation activity for the server to process. Pocketpair’s documentation warns that increasing the base allowance raises processing load. The practical choice depends on concurrent players, world activity, CPU headroom, and how heavily built each camp is.
- Raise the value gradually instead of jumping to an unnecessarily large number.
- Monitor CPU use, tick or simulation performance, memory, and player reports after the change.
- Keep the server-wide value high enough for the intended community, but avoid treating it as a per-player quota.
- Set a per-guild value that matches your server rules; a high guild cap can let one group consume much of the shared budget.
Why the new value may appear to be ignored
The server was still running
A restart is required after changing the file. Stop the process completely, wait for it to exit, and then start it again. A panel’s “restart” action can fail to stop a detached process, so verify in the console or process list that the old instance is gone.
The wrong file was edited
Palworld uses the file under the active save configuration directory. Editing DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini alone has no effect on an already configured server. Confirm the operating-system directory name: WindowsServer on Windows and LinuxServer on Linux.
The key is outside OptionSettings=(...)
The server reads the option from the OptionSettings expression. A second line containing a loose BaseCampMaxNum entry, a misspelled key, or a value placed after the closing parenthesis may be ignored. Search for the existing key and edit its number in place.

Some hosts write their panel values back to disk whenever the server starts. If your manual edit disappears, change the value in the panel’s configuration editor or environment-variable section. Check the startup log and compare the file immediately before and after a restart to identify an overwrite.
The guild limit, not the server limit, is blocking placement
If other guilds can still build and your guild cannot, inspect BaseCampMaxNumInGuild. If every guild is blocked, inspect the shared BaseCampMaxNum budget. Also make sure the test guild has not already reached its own allowance.
Another setting was changed by mistake
BaseCampWorkerMaxNum changes how many Pals a base can use; it does not increase the number of camps. MaxBuildingLimitNum controls a player’s building count and is also independent of base camps. Restore the backup if the long settings line contains accidental edits.
Do you need to delete a save file?
No authoritative documentation establishes that deleting WorldOption.sav is universally required for a base-limit change. Forum advice may apply to a particular host, deployment, or older release, but deleting a world file can have consequences beyond this setting. First verify the active configuration path, clean shutdown, restart, and host overwrite behavior. Ask the provider for deployment-specific instructions before deleting any save data, and keep a complete backup if they direct you to do so.
Operational checklist
- Identify whether you need a server-wide total or a per-guild allowance.
- Confirm the build’s existing default instead of assuming a universal number.
- Stop the dedicated server fully.
- Back up
PalWorldSettings.ini. - Edit the active
WindowsServerorLinuxServerfile. - Change only the relevant value inside
OptionSettings=(...). - Save, restart, and check the startup result.
- Test with a guild that has not reached its separate cap.
- Watch performance after increasing the limit.
Final answer
The reliable method is a configuration edit, not a world reset: shut down the server, change BaseCampMaxNum in the active PalWorldSettings.ini, and restart. Use BaseCampMaxNumInGuild for the guild-specific allowance, remember that the two limits apply at different scopes, and keep the processing cost of additional camps in mind.
