On a Legacy (Unreal Engine 4) Conan Exiles dedicated server, change the map by stopping the server, editing Engine.ini, setting ServerDefaultMap to the map’s asset path, saving the file, and starting the server again. For Isle of Siptah, use /Game/DLC_EXT/DLC_Siptah/Maps/DLC_Isle_of_Siptah. The separate Siptah server option does not exist on Enhanced (Unreal Engine 5): Funcom merged Siptah into Exiled Lands and closed separate Siptah PC servers. The instructions below therefore apply to a Legacy server or another build that still supports separate map saves.

First determine which Conan Exiles build your server uses
Map switching works differently on Legacy and Enhanced, and using the right configuration on the wrong build is the most common source of confusion.

Enhanced combines Isle of Siptah with Exiled Lands in one world. Funcom’s Enhanced information says Siptah was merged into Exiled Lands and separate Siptah PC servers were closed at 15:00 on May 4. You cannot create a separate Isle of Siptah server on this build by adding an old ServerDefaultMap line.
Legacy (UE4)
Legacy keeps Exiled Lands and Isle of Siptah as separate server types, with separate save databases. Legacy receives critical fixes but no new features. To install the Legacy client in Steam, open Library, right-click Conan Exiles, choose Properties, open Game Versions & Betas, and select Conan Exiles Legacy. Every player joining a Legacy server must use the same beta branch; an Enhanced client cannot join a Legacy instance.

Some hosting pages still show an Isle of Siptah selector. Those pages can describe a Legacy-era setup even when the host’s default product is Enhanced, so confirm the server branch before changing any file.
What you need before editing the server
- Administrative access to the dedicated-server files or to the host’s file manager.
- A complete server stop, not merely a restart command issued while the process is still running.
- A backup of the current
ConanSandboxSaveddirectory, especiallydlc_siptah.dbif a Siptah save already exists. - For Siptah, a paid Isle of Siptah license for every player who will join.
- Matching Legacy or Enhanced versions for the server, client, and any mods.
Changing the default map does not convert an existing world. The destination map starts as a fresh world for that server type. The previous map’s save remains in the Saved directory and can be restored when you switch back, provided you preserve the files and keep the compatible game branch.

Use this method when the server is a normal Legacy installation and your control panel allows direct file editing.
1. Stop the server completely
Use the host’s Stop action and wait until the process is gone. Do not edit while the game is running. A host guide reports that an in-game administrative layer can write its current settings over an edit when the server shuts down, which removes the change. Editing only after the process has stopped avoids that overwrite.

2. Back up the Saved folder
Copy the entire ConanSandboxSaved folder to a location outside the live server directory. At minimum, preserve the existing database files and configuration files. If you have previously used Siptah, make a separate copy of dlc_siptah.db. Label the backup with the date and the map that was active so you can identify it during a rollback.
3. Open the correct Engine.ini file
On a Windows dedicated server, open:

ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Engine.iniThe spelling and capitalization of the directory matter. If the file is absent, start the server once, stop it cleanly, and check the configuration directory again. Do not create a second Engine.ini in a similarly named folder; the server reads the platform-specific configuration path.
4. Set the dedicated-server map key
Add the following section to Engine.ini. If the section already exists, keep one section header and add or replace the key inside it.

ServerDefaultMap=/Game/DLC_EXT/DLC_Siptah/Maps/DLC_Isle_of_SiptahServerDefaultMap is the important part. A host guide distinguishes it from GameDefaultMap: the latter is intended for the client and is ignored by the dedicated server in this setup. Adding only GameDefaultMap therefore leaves the server on its previous map.
5. Save the file without changing the asset path
Save Engine.ini as a plain text INI file. Do not add quotation marks, a file extension such as .txt, or spaces inside the asset path. The complete Siptah path is:

Start the server normally and wait for it to finish loading before connecting. A map change can take longer than a routine restart because the server is opening the destination world and may be creating its initial save. Confirm the map in the server’s status information or by joining with a matching Legacy client.
Return the server to Exiled Lands
Stop the server before changing the file again. You can either remove the ServerDefaultMap line or explicitly set the Exiled Lands asset:

ServerDefaultMap=/Game/Maps/ConanSandbox/ConanSandboxKeeping the section and using the explicit Exiled Lands path makes the intended destination visible to anyone maintaining the server. After saving, start the server and verify that the Exiled Lands world loads. The Siptah database is not deleted by this change; it remains available for a later switch if you kept the files and stay on the compatible Legacy branch.
When a control panel ignores Engine.ini
Some service managers apply their own launch arguments after reading configuration files. In that situation, the file can contain the Siptah path while the panel still starts Exiled Lands. A TCAdmin community report describes this exact behavior: a command-prompt launch honored the Engine.ini change, but the service manager did not.

Use the panel’s command-line manager
- Stop the service and open the panel’s command-line or startup-parameter editor.
- Look for the map or world entry. Some panels expose a field in which the usual
ConanSandboxvalue is replaced withDLC_Isle_of_Siptah. - Set the launch map to the Siptah asset path expected by that panel:
/Game/DLC_EXT/DLC_Siptah/Maps/DLC_Isle_of_Siptah. - Save the service configuration, then start the server from the panel rather than from a separate console.
Panels differ in how they label the argument, so do not copy a flag from a different product unless the panel documents that syntax. The key diagnostic is whether the panel’s generated command line contains a separate map argument that overrides the INI value. If it does, correct that argument or remove it so the INI setting can take effect.

These are server asset paths, not Windows or Linux filesystem paths. Do not prepend a drive letter, use backslashes, or point the setting at a local workshop or save directory.
What happens to characters, buildings, and saves
A map switch creates a separate world state
The server opens the destination map with its own world data. Characters, structures, thralls, inventories, and map discoveries from the old world do not automatically appear in the new map. Treat the first launch after a switch as a new-world start unless you have a supported transfer process.
The old save remains in Saved
Switching the default map does not intentionally erase the previous map’s database. Keep the complete Saved backup anyway: a host guide identifies dlc_siptah.db as the Siptah save, and a mistaken overwrite, branch change, or host cleanup can make recovery harder.
Switching back is a restore decision
When you return to a map, the server should use that map’s existing database if it is still present. If it instead presents a blank world, stop immediately and compare the live Saved directory with your dated backup. Do not continue playing in the blank world until you know which database the server opened; continued play can create new data that complicates recovery.
Enhanced migration and Legacy mod compatibility
If your goal is to move an existing Legacy Siptah community to Enhanced, changing ServerDefaultMap is not the migration method. Enhanced merges Siptah content into Exiled Lands rather than hosting a second Siptah server. Funcom publishes a migration FAQ, and hosting documentation describes using a Server Transfer Tool to move Legacy Siptah characters into the merged Enhanced world. The transfer details are not confirmed by a Funcom page in the available material, so check the current tool instructions and make a full backup before attempting it.
Legacy mods also require attention. Existing Legacy mods must be re-cooked by their authors for Enhanced. A mod that worked on UE4 can fail to load, prevent the server from starting, or produce missing assets on UE5 even when the map setting is correct. Test a mod-free copy of the server first, then add only versions explicitly built for the target branch.
Troubleshooting a map change
The server still loads Exiled Lands
- Confirm that the server is Legacy. The separate Siptah option is unavailable on Enhanced.
- Check that you edited the active platform folder:
WindowsServerfor Windows orLinuxServerfor Linux. - Verify the section header is exactly
[/Script/EngineSettings.GameMapsSettings]. - Verify the key is
ServerDefaultMap, notGameDefaultMap. - Stop the process, edit the file, save it, and start again; an edit made during shutdown can be overwritten.
- Inspect the service manager for a launch argument that forces Exiled Lands.
The server fails to start after the edit
- Stop the server and restore the last known-good
Engine.inifrom your backup. - Check for a malformed section header, duplicate conflicting entries, smart quotes, or a line wrapped in the middle of the asset path.
- Use the exact Siptah path shown in this guide; it is case-sensitive in contexts where the host filesystem or service wrapper enforces case.
- Start without recently added mods to determine whether the failure is a branch or mod compatibility problem rather than a map setting.
The world loads but appears empty
First determine whether you intentionally opened a new destination world. A map switch does not merge the old buildings or characters into the new map. If the wrong map or database opened, stop the server, preserve the current files, and restore the correct database from the dated backup instead of deleting files while the service is running.

- Every player must run the same Legacy branch as the server.
- Every player who joins must own Isle of Siptah.
- Ensure the server is not Enhanced while clients are Legacy, or vice versa.
- Remove or update mods that are not available for the selected branch.
A safe repeatable workflow
- Record the current branch, map, active mods, and server start method.
- Stop the server and verify that its process has ended.
- Copy
ConanSandboxSaved, includingdlc_siptah.dbwhen present. - Edit the platform-specific
Engine.ini. - Set one
ServerDefaultMapvalue under the GameMapsSettings section. - Check the panel’s command-line settings for an overriding map argument.
- Start the server and wait for a complete load.
- Join with a client on the same branch and verify the destination map before allowing normal play.
- Keep the backup until the new world has been tested and you have confirmed that switching back is possible.
This process lets you alternate between Legacy Exiled Lands and Legacy Isle of Siptah without treating either world as disposable. On Enhanced, use the merged-world design instead of attempting to recreate a separate Siptah server.
