Stop the BeamMP server, open its ServerConfig.toml, change the Map value under [General], save the file, and restart the server. For a custom map, upload the map ZIP unchanged to Resources/Client and make the path match the level folder inside the ZIP exactly.

Most BeamMP configurations use a path such as /levels/<level-folder>/info.json. A few hosting examples use main.level.json instead, so the level-file convention supported by your host matters if an otherwise correct path fails.

What you need before changing the map
You need access to the machine or hosting panel that runs the BeamMP server, permission to stop and start that server, and a text editor that can save plain-text TOML files. The configuration file is normally in the same server directory as BeamMP-Server.exe and Server.log. Make a copy of the file before editing it so you can restore the previous setting if the server will not start or the selected level does not load.
- Server access: You must be able to stop the process and edit its files. If a host provides a file manager, use that panel’s stop control before opening the file.
- Configuration file: Locate
ServerConfig.toml, not a similarly named backup or log file. - Map identifier: For a stock level, use its BeamNG level path. For a custom level, inspect the ZIP’s
levels/directory and copy the folder name exactly. - Maintenance window: Players are disconnected while the server restarts. One hosting guide describes the map transition as taking about 30 seconds; the actual duration depends on the host and server hardware.
Do not edit the file while the server is actively running. A running process can overwrite your changes, and players may remain connected to the old level until the next restart.

Change a stock map step by step
- Stop the server. Use the host’s Stop button or stop the BeamMP server process on the machine. Wait until the process has exited before editing files.
- Open the server directory. Find the folder containing
BeamMP-Server.exe,Server.log, andServerConfig.toml. - Back up the configuration. Copy
ServerConfig.tomlto a safe name such asServerConfig.toml.backup. Keep the original extension on the working file so the server still recognizes it as TOML. - Open the configuration in a plain-text editor. Search for the
[General]section and itsMapentry. TOML keys are case-sensitive in practice for this configuration, so edit the existing key rather than creating a second key with a different spelling. - Replace only the map value. Keep the setting in quoted form. For example:
Map = "/levels/west_coast_usa/info.json" - Save the file. Confirm that the editor did not append an extra extension such as
.txt. The filename must remainServerConfig.toml. - Start the server again. Use the normal Start control or launch command. The new level is selected during startup; connected players from the previous session must reconnect.
The official BeamMP documentation shows Map = "/levels/ks_nord/info.json" as a sample. That line demonstrates the format; it does not establish that ks_nord is the default map. Other guides show /levels/gridmap_v2/info.json as the default example.
Use the correct path for a built-in level
The path is not a display name such as “Italy” or “West Coast USA.” It is a level resource path beginning with /levels/, followed by the level’s directory name, and then the level’s entry file. Common examples documented by BeamMP guides are:

Folder names, underscores, and capitalization must match the resource name. A path that looks almost right can still fail if one character differs.

Why some guides show main.level.json
Most of the BeamMP instructions assembled for this procedure use info.json. An example from Cubes Hosting instead uses:
Map = "/levels/italy/main.level.json"
That is a real discrepancy, not two interchangeable spellings. If your host’s template or documentation uses main.level.json, follow that host-specific convention. If the server starts but rejects an info.json path, check the level files actually available in the server’s resources and the host’s expected entry file. Conversely, do not change a working info.json configuration solely because another provider uses a different example.
Verify that the new map loaded
After startup, verify the result from both the server side and the player’s side instead of assuming that a successful process launch means the requested map is active.

- Read the startup output. Check the server console or
Server.logfor map-loading errors, missing files, or a path that cannot be resolved. - Join with a client. Confirm that the loading screen and the playable environment correspond to the level you selected.
- Check the exact configuration value. If the server loaded a different level, reopen
ServerConfig.tomlafter stopping the process and make sure the saved value is the one you intended. - Check file placement. A correct path cannot load a resource that is absent from the server’s available files or has been placed in the wrong resource directory.
Keep the previous configuration backup until players have successfully joined the new level. It gives you a known-good rollback if a later edit introduces a syntax or path error.
Set a custom map
Custom maps require two separate operations: place the map archive where BeamMP clients can receive it, then point the server’s Map key at the level folder contained in that archive.
Upload the ZIP without extracting it
- Stop the server before changing its resources.
- Open the server’s
Resources/Clientdirectory. This is the location identified by BeamMP hosting guidance for client-side map and mod ZIP files. - Upload the map ZIP exactly as supplied. Do not unzip it unless the map’s own installation instructions explicitly require a different layout.
- Keep the archive’s filename and internal directory structure intact. Renaming the ZIP is less important than preserving the
levels/structure inside it, but leaving the archive unchanged makes troubleshooting easier.
Find the level folder inside the archive
Open a copy of the ZIP with an archive viewer and inspect the top-level levels/ directory. Suppose the archive contains:

levels/desert_rally/info.json
The corresponding setting is:
Map = "/levels/desert_rally/info.json"
The folder name is desert_rally; it is not necessarily the ZIP filename, the map’s marketing name, or the name shown in a download page. Copy the internal folder spelling exactly, including underscores and capitalization. If the archive contains more than one level folder, select the one whose entry file is intended to launch the map and verify its installation notes.

Edit the Map key under [General] using the same procedure as for a stock map. The path must point to the level folder inside the uploaded archive, not to Resources/Client itself and not to the ZIP filename. Save the file and start the server again so it can load the new resource and advertise it to clients.
Fix “custom map not loading” problems
Use the symptom that you observe to narrow the cause. Change one thing at a time, and stop the server before each configuration edit.

TOML details that prevent avoidable errors
Only the value after Map = needs to change for a normal map switch. Preserve the section header and the surrounding configuration. A valid line has a quoted string and no smart quotation marks:
Map = "/levels/italy/info.json"
Do not add a second Map line elsewhere in the file to “override” the first one. Duplicate keys can produce an invalid or ambiguous configuration. Do not put the path in brackets, remove the leading slash, or replace the forward slashes with a Windows-style backslash path.

If you use a graphical editor, disable rich-text formatting. If you use a control-panel editor, verify that its Save action completed before restarting. A browser tab showing unsaved text is not evidence that the server will read those changes.
Plan the change for a live community server
A map switch is a restart operation, not a seamless in-game teleport. Announce the maintenance window, stop the server cleanly, make the edit, and allow enough time for startup and client reconnection. Since players are disconnected during the transition, schedule the change between sessions when possible.
- Record the old
Mapvalue in your backup. - Record the new path and the reason for the change in your server notes.
- Upload custom content before the announced restart so the maintenance window is spent applying the configuration rather than transferring files.
- Keep the previous map available until at least one client has joined the new one successfully.
- If the new map fails, stop the server, restore the known-good configuration, and restart rather than making several speculative edits at once.
Can the map be changed with an in-game command?
The documented procedure covered here is configuration editing followed by a server restart. The available material does not verify an official BeamMP chat or console command for changing maps while the server remains online, so do not rely on an unverified command for production operations. If a plugin or host panel offers a map-switch feature, treat it as a separate host- or plugin-specific function and confirm which configuration value it ultimately changes.
