For a YouTube podcast livestream, edit the active broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room—not the encoder’s connection settings. Open the stream’s settings, change its title or description, save, then check the public watch page. The exact button label or placement can change as Studio’s interface evolves. These steps are specific to YouTube; other platforms have their own controls.
Change the metadata on a live YouTube broadcast
- Open YouTube Studio. Go to the Live Control Room using the Go Live entry point.
- Select the active broadcast. Choose the stream that is currently running, rather than a different scheduled or completed stream.
- Open its stream settings and edit the details. Update the viewer-facing title, description, or both. YouTube Help describes editing metadata through Edit on the stream settings page; labels and placement may vary as Studio changes. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
- Save the changes. Check the Studio details or public watch page to confirm the new information appears.
YouTube’s documented controls cover encoder and mobile livestreams. If your podcast uses another platform, look for the active broadcast’s settings in that platform’s live dashboard; do not assume the YouTube menu path applies there.

Edit the broadcast, not the encoder connection
YouTube separates the public broadcast from the incoming encoder feed. In Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API, a liveBroadcast represents the viewer-facing video. Its title, description, category, privacy status, and other video metadata can be updated. A liveStream describes the feed sent by the encoder; its title and description are not visible to YouTube users. That distinction matters if you are searching for the title field in OBS or another encoder: changing feed or connection details is not the same as changing what viewers see. Make the edit on the active broadcast in Studio.

If you set up the show in StreamYard
StreamYard’s published setup guide documents entering a title and description when creating a stream, with an option to customize those details for each selected destination. Its multistream guide also describes destination-specific fields. These instructions establish how to set metadata during setup; they do not establish that an edit made in StreamYard after a show has started will update every destination. For a running show, use each destination’s live dashboard if StreamYard does not expose the edit control, then verify the change on each destination’s public page.
StreamYard’s guide also distinguishes scheduling from going live: a scheduled post can notify the audience, but the host still needs to enter the studio and click Go Live at showtime. Check the change on every destination
- Confirm you selected the active broadcast, not another scheduled or past stream.
- Check the public watch page or the platform’s live dashboard after saving.
- If you are multistreaming, verify the title and description separately on each destination; one service’s edit is not established to propagate everywhere.
