To install League of Legends in a different location, use Riot’s uninstall-and-reinstall process and follow the destination options the installer actually displays. Riot’s published guidance explains how to find the existing game folder, but does not document a supported way to move that folder directly or confirm that every current installer offers a custom destination picker. Don’t assume that dragging the folder to another drive will work.
Find your current League of Legends folder
These steps help identify an existing installation. They are not a way to move it.

Windows
- Right-click the League of Legends desktop shortcut and choose Open File Location.
- Copy the folder path shown in File Explorer. If Riot’s updated-client installer has a blank location field, enter that path there. Riot says the updated client shares files with the existing installation and must be installed in the same location.
If you don’t have a desktop shortcut, find lol.launcher.exe (it may appear as lol.launcher), right-click it, open Properties, and copy the folder location into the installer.

Riot lists C:Riot GamesLeague of Legends as the default Windows path. Your installation may be elsewhere, so use the steps above rather than assuming it is in the default folder. Riot’s patcher troubleshooting article gives the default path.

Mac
When the installer asks for the existing location, browse to League of Legends.app and open it. Riot’s instructions describe this for identifying the current installation, not moving it.
Install the game in a different location
Riot documents uninstalling and reinstalling League of Legends, but its published instructions do not confirm that the current installer always lets you choose a custom destination. Start the official install flow and rely on the options shown in your version of the installer; if it does not offer a location choice, Riot’s cited guidance does not establish another supported way to set one.

Windows
- Open Windows Installed apps and uninstall League of Legends.
- Download the game again through Riot’s official League of Legends download flow and follow the installer prompts.
- If a destination option appears, select the location you want. If no such option appears, don’t assume the Riot Client’s own install location changes where the game is installed.
Mac
- Remove
League of Legends.app, then empty the Trash and restart your Mac. - Download the Mac installer through Riot’s official League of Legends download flow and follow its prompts.
- Use a different destination only if the installer presents that option; Riot’s published reinstall instructions do not guarantee a custom-location picker.

Can you move League of Legends without reinstalling?
Riot’s cited guidance does not establish that cutting and pasting the existing game folder to another drive, then relinking it in the client, is supported. It also does not describe a current relinking procedure. Use the documented uninstall-and-reinstall route rather than treating a manual folder move as an official method.

Preserve replays before uninstalling
Riot’s reinstall article notes that replays may be stored in DocumentsLeague of Legends and can be copied elsewhere before deletion. If you want to keep them, copy that folder to a safe location before uninstalling; don’t assume uninstalling will preserve it.

Riot’s guidance and its limits
- Riot’s updated-client article says the installer should detect the existing game location, explains how to identify that location if the field is blank, and says the updated client shares files with the existing installation and must be installed in the same location.
- Riot’s uninstall and reinstall article gives Windows and Mac removal and installation steps, but does not specify that every current installer has a custom destination control.
- Riot’s Windows patcher article identifies
C:Riot GamesLeague of Legendsas the default path, not a guaranteed path for every player.
