On most Samsung Galaxy phones, go to Settings → Apps → Choose default apps → Phone app, then select the installed calling app you want to use. The exact labels and available choices can vary by model, software version, region and carrier.
Change the default calling app
- Open Settings on your Galaxy phone.
- Tap Apps.
- Tap Choose default apps. Depending on the software version or region, this may appear as Default apps or a similar label.
- Tap Phone app, or the calling-app category shown on your device.
- Select the installed app you want to use for calls.
Samsung’s general instructions use the default-app settings route, and a Samsung Community accepted answer gives the Phone app selection steps for the Galaxy S24. Samsung’s Australia guide is for Australian Galaxy variants, while Samsung US notes that screens and settings vary by model, software version and wireless provider. If the calling app you want is not listed
Only installed compatible apps appear as default-app choices, and Samsung says the available categories and apps can depend on the apps installed on the phone. Samsung Canada Support states: “Available categories and apps may vary depending on the apps installed on your Samsung Galaxy.” Confirm the app is installed, then check the default-app screen again. If it still does not appear, consult Samsung’s instructions for your specific device and software version; the setting labels and options are not identical on every Galaxy phone. If another dialer still opens
First return to Settings → Apps → Choose default apps → Phone app and confirm your preferred app is selected. A Samsung Community accepted answer suggests clearing defaults for other phone or dialer apps if the selection does not seem to take effect. That is community troubleshooting advice, not a fix Samsung has established as universal. If the behavior continues, consult support guidance for your exact Galaxy model and software version.

What to check before relying on another calling app
Setting an app as the default does not establish that it supports every calling feature on every Galaxy model, carrier or software version. The available sources do not identify a best third-party dialer or establish feature parity. Check that the app appears in your phone’s selectable Phone app list and test the calling features you rely on with your own carrier and device.
