Change a FiveM server banner by adding two convars to server.cfg, pointing each convar to a directly reachable image URL, and restarting the server. Use sets banner_detail for the image shown with your server in the server list and sets banner_connecting for the image shown while players connect.

sets banner_connecting "https://your-domain.example/connecting.png"Do not put a leading # before either line. A hash comments the line out, so FiveM ignores it. The image URL must resolve directly to an image file or image response; a normal webpage containing an image is not the same thing as a direct image link. Save the configuration and restart the server after changing it.

What the two FiveM banner settings do
FiveM uses two separate server-list variables, so you can use one image in the public server browser and another on the connecting screen. The names are easy to confuse, but each has a distinct purpose.

Guides from Shockbyte, Nodecraft and ZAP-Hosting all describe these two settings. They are independent: setting only one does not configure the other.
Prepare an image that FiveM can reach
Before editing the configuration, make sure the artwork is hosted somewhere that FiveM can request without signing in or running a browser-only script. Copy the image’s direct URL, not the address of a gallery, post, preview page or file-management screen.

Check that the link is direct
- Open the copied URL in a private browser window where you are not logged in to the image host.
- Confirm that the response displays the image itself rather than a page with an image embedded in it.
- Copy the complete HTTPS address, including the file extension or image path supplied by the host.
- Use that exact address in
server.cfgand test it again from another connection if possible.
Imgur is frequently used in community instructions, but a Cfx.re forum report says Imgur blocked FiveM requests for some users. If an Imgur URL works in your browser but your banner never appears in FiveM, move the file to another host that permits direct, unauthenticated image requests rather than assuming the convar is wrong.

Keep the URL stable
A banner depends on the remote URL every time a player views it. Do not use a temporary upload, a private file, a link that expires, or an address that changes when you replace the image. If you later move the file, update the corresponding convar and restart the server again.
Choose a practical banner size
There is no single, confirmed official dimension in the available guidance. The most commonly repeated figure is 1865 × 108 pixels, attributed to an original cfx.re community guide and repeated by the MeteoFiveM banner-size article. Another guide uses 1865 × 250 pixels, while a separate source says there is no strict size requirement.

Because the sources conflict and no official Cfx.re page in the available material resolves the conflict, treat 1865 × 108 as a default, not a hard requirement. A correctly configured banner can still fail if its URL is inaccessible, while changing dimensions cannot repair a commented-out convar.
Design for two different viewing contexts
The details banner may be viewed as part of a server-list entry, while the connecting banner occupies a loading-screen context. Keep logos, server names and essential text near the center of the image, where cropping or different display widths are less likely to hide them. Use high-contrast text and avoid relying on tiny lettering that becomes unreadable when the image is displayed at a smaller size.

If one design is sufficient, both convars may point to the same direct image URL; the settings remain separate even when the value is identical.
Edit server.cfg
Your hosting panel may provide a file editor, or you may edit the configuration through txAdmin’s CFG Editor. The exact menu names vary by host, but the required text is the same. SparkedHost and ZAP-Hosting both describe editing the configuration through a host or management-panel editor.
Step 1: Open the active configuration
Open the server.cfg used by the server instance that players join. If your panel manages more than one server, verify the instance name before saving. Editing an unused sample file will not change the running server.
Step 2: Add or replace both lines
Place the settings anywhere in the active configuration where other sets declarations are kept. Replace the example URLs with your own direct image URLs:

sets banner_connecting "https://your-domain.example/connecting.png"Keep the spelling, underscore and spacing exactly as shown. The connecting variable is banner_connecting. A guide typo that uses banner*connection does not define the FiveM setting you need.
Step 3: Remove comment characters
Check the first character on each active line. These work:

Use the panel’s save action or save the local file without changing its name. If the editor warns that another process has modified the file, reload the current version first so you do not overwrite newer configuration changes.

Step 5: Restart the FiveM server
Stop and start the server, or use the host’s restart control. A configuration edit is not applied merely because the file was saved. Guides from Shockbyte and SparkedHost specifically instruct administrators to restart after saving.
Verify each banner after the restart
Test the two locations separately instead of checking only one. First locate your server in the FiveM server list and open its detailed view; this tests banner_detail. Then begin a connection to the server and watch the connecting screen; this tests banner_connecting.
- If the details image appears but the connecting image does not, inspect only the
banner_connectingline and its URL. - If the connecting image appears but the server-list image does not, inspect only
banner_detail. - If neither appears, check that both lines are active, correctly spelled, saved in the active
server.cfgand followed by a restart.
Open both URLs directly in a browser after the restart. A URL that returns an access-denied page, a login screen or a host’s HTML wrapper is not a usable direct image URL, even if the image is visible to you through that page.
Troubleshoot a banner that is not showing
1. The line starts with #
This is the quickest error to find. Delete the hash and any accidental space before sets, save, and restart. The Cfx.re forum example at forum.cfx.re/t/how-to-add-server-banner/144368 documents this exact cause.
2. The convar is misspelled
Compare the text character by character:
banner_detailuses an underscore betweenbanneranddetail.banner_connectinguses an underscore and ends withconnecting.
Do not substitute banner_connection, banner*connection or another variation. The asterisk form appearing in one guide is a typo, not an alternate setting.
3. The URL is a page instead of an image
Replace a gallery or preview address with the host’s direct image address. Test the URL while logged out. If the host requires a cookie, redirects to a viewer page or blocks automated requests, FiveM may be unable to retrieve it. The reported Imgur blocking issue is a reason to test another host when an otherwise correct configuration fails.
4. You edited the wrong file
Large hosting panels can expose templates, backups and multiple server instances. Confirm that the file belongs to the running instance and that your panel saved the change. txAdmin users should make the edit in the CFG Editor for the server they actually start.

5. You did not restart
Restart the server after every change to either convar. If you corrected the URL or spelling while the process was running, the old configuration can remain in effect until the restart completes.
6. Only one of the two images is missing
Do not replace a working line while diagnosing the other. Compare the failing convar with the working one, open its URL directly, and verify that the file is still hosted at that address. The two settings are independent, so a failure in one does not prove that the other is wrong.
7. The image is the wrong shape
Dimensions are not established as a strict requirement. Start with the commonly cited 1865 × 108-pixel canvas, then test your design. If you used the taller 1865 × 250 format from another guide, resize or redesign only after confirming that the URL and convar work. Do not treat a size change as a substitute for fixing a commented line or inaccessible host.

Panels simplify the file-editing step but do not change the FiveM syntax. In a typical panel workflow, open the file manager, select the active server.cfg, insert the two sets lines, save, and use the panel’s restart control. In txAdmin, open the CFG Editor for the selected server, make the same edit, save it and restart that server.

If it produces a different variable name, inspect the generated server.cfg and use the documented banner_detail and banner_connecting lines. The configuration text is the authoritative part of this procedure.
A complete working example
The following example uses separate files for the two contexts:

If you intentionally want one artwork everywhere, use the same direct URL on both lines:

Some sample configuration files include a sv_projectName declaration, but the available material does not establish that it controls, replaces or improves either banner. Do not add or change sv_projectName as a banner fix. Concentrate on the two banner convars and the image URLs assigned to them.

Likewise, there is no published statistic in the available guidance that measures how many servers use banners or proves that one image dimension performs better than another. The practical, supportable approach is to use the widely cited 1865 × 108 default, keep the URL directly reachable, and test both display contexts.
FiveM banner checklist
- Create or export the banner artwork.
- Host it at a stable, public URL that returns the image directly.
- Open the URL while logged out to check that it is not a private or viewer-only link.
- Use 1865 × 108 pixels as a starting size, while treating that dimension as a default rather than a mandatory specification.
- Edit the active
server.cfgor the matching txAdmin CFG Editor. - Add
sets banner_detailfor the server-list image. - Add
sets banner_connectingfor the connecting-screen image. - Check that neither line begins with
#. - Check the spelling of
banner_connecting; do not use the documented typobanner*connection. - Save the file and restart the server.
- Test the details view and connecting screen separately.
- If one fails, test that line’s URL directly and verify the host is not blocking FiveM requests.
