Adjust the size and save. On some TVs, you can also pause a title and change Size in the player’s Settings. The exact controls depend on your device and language.
How do I change the subtitle size on Netflix in a browser?
- Open the Netflix Account page in a web browser and sign in if prompted.
- Select Profiles, then choose the profile whose subtitles you want to change.
- Open Subtitle appearance.
- Choose a size and any other appearance options you want, then select Save.
The browser account setting is Netflix’s broadest official customization route. It can change font, size, shadow, and background color for subtitles and closed captions. Open Netflix on your device to use the updated appearance. On a TV or streaming device, you may need to reload the app using Settings > Get Help > Reload.

The account appearance option is unavailable in some countries whose primary languages are Arabic or Hebrew, even if your profile uses another language. Some older devices may also fail to display the selected appearance.
Can I change subtitle size on a TV?
- Start a show or movie and pause playback.
- Open the player controls and select Settings.
- Choose Size to adjust the subtitles; use Style if you want to change other available appearance settings.
These controls appear only on supported TVs and TV streaming devices. If Settings is missing, Netflix says that the device does not support appearance changes for that language. Connected TV devices also offer fewer appearance options than a web browser, and support can vary by language.

Which method should I use?
| Device or method | Where the control is | Scope and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Web browser | Account > Profiles > profile > Subtitle appearance | Broadest Netflix appearance customization; availability varies by country, and some older devices may not show the selected style. |
| Supported TV or streaming device | Paused player > Settings | Offers Size and Style where supported; fewer choices than the browser, with availability dependent on device and language. |
| Android app | My Netflix > profile name > Manage Profiles > profile > Subtitle Appearance | Changes apply to Netflix titles played on that Android mobile device; changes save automatically. |
| Apple device | Apple Support instructions or device accessibility settings | Netflix points Apple users to Apple Support for platform-specific instructions; accessibility settings can affect other apps. |
Why are Netflix subtitles still too large?
Netflix warns that subtitles can become too large when both Netflix and the device settings are configured to increase their size. Check both layers and reduce the size in either Netflix’s appearance controls or the device’s accessibility settings. If you use device-level settings, remember that they may also affect other apps.
What to try if the change does not appear
- On Android: Switch to another Netflix profile, then switch back to the profile you edited.
- On a smart TV: Reload Netflix through Settings > Get Help > Reload.
- On another device: Netflix’s troubleshooting page says it is investigating the issue for other devices and directs users to contact support.
For the official steps and limitations, see Netflix Help Center’s pages on changing subtitle appearance, subtitle size troubleshooting, and mobile text appearance.
