To change your Sidekick, open Locker > Sidekicks. To stop showing your own companion, unequip it there. Epic documents a separate visibility control for creators configuring UEFN islands, but its official documentation does not establish a player-wide setting for hiding other people’s Sidekicks.
How to change your Sidekick’s appearance
- Open the Locker.
- Select Sidekicks on the left.
- Select the displayed Sidekick to view the available Sidekicks.
- Choose an available appearance.
- Select NEXT STEP and review the preview.
- Hold LOCK-IN to confirm.
- Select a name or choose RANDOMIZE NAME, then select FINISH CUSTOMIZATION.
Epic says an appearance becomes permanent after you lock it in. Not every Sidekick can be customized, and owned customizations must have unique appearances. Review the preview before confirming. Epic also says you can purchase the same Sidekick more than once to use different appearances, but cannot have duplicate appearances for it. How to rename a Sidekick
- In the Locker, select your Sidekick.
- Open its three-dot menu and select Rename.
- Enter a name or select RANDOMIZE NAME, then select SAVE.
A Sidekick marked as not customizable cannot be renamed or given a different appearance. Cabined Accounts receive a selection of names. See Epic’s Sidekick naming instructions.

How to hide your own Sidekick
Open Locker > Sidekicks and leave no Sidekick equipped. Epic’s Sidekick quest instructions refer to an empty paw icon when no Sidekick is equipped; that is the relevant indicator. This removes your own equipped companion, not other players’ companions. Epic’s Sidekick quest instructions

Can you hide other players’ Sidekicks?
Epic’s official sources reviewed do not document a general player setting that hides teammates’ or opponents’ Sidekicks across Fortnite. Unequipping your own companion affects only your own Sidekick. Do not confuse that Locker action with creator controls for an individual island.
What Sidekick visibility settings do UEFN creators have?
Creators configuring experiences in UEFN can use island settings to enable or disable player Sidekicks, choose whether a Sidekick is visible to everyone or only its owner, and disable automated reactions. Epic’s ecosystem notes say Sidekicks are disabled by default in the island settings described there. These controls apply to the creator’s island; they are not a global preference for players to hide other people’s Sidekicks in Fortnite.
