If RCS Messaging is missing
First check that your iPhone is running iOS 18 or later. If the setting still does not appear, ask your wireless carrier whether RCS on iPhone is supported for your specific plan and region. Apple notes that availability varies by region and network provider; support is not universal.
What RCS changes in Messages
RCS is a carrier-provided messaging service. With compatible recipients and carrier support, it can provide high-resolution photo and video sharing, links, delivery and read receipts, and typing indicators. Apple’s comparison of iMessage, RCS and SMS/MMS explains how the services differ.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
RCS messages appear in green bubbles, as do SMS and MMS messages. Bubble color alone therefore does not tell you whether a particular green-bubble message used RCS, SMS or MMS.
Optional RCS controls
Business messages
Apple provides a separate RCS Business Messages switch in the RCS settings for messages from participating businesses, such as order or transaction alerts. If an unwanted business message arrives, you can report it as junk. See Apple’s Messages setup guide for information about Messages settings.

End-to-end encryption
Apple documents an End-to-End Encryption (Beta) switch in iOS 26.5 for supported carriers, with availability rolling out over time. Do not assume every RCS conversation is encrypted: the control and carrier support must be available. Apple says an encrypted conversation displays “Encrypted” and a lock icon.
