On supported hosting websites, change PHP parameters in hPanel: open Websites, choose Dashboard for the right site, then go to PHP Configuration > PHP Options. Adjust the setting and save. The value that takes effect cannot exceed your hosting plan’s limit, so confirm the result on the site’s PHP Info page.
Change a PHP parameter in hPanel

Save the change. If you are also changing PHP extensions, use the same PHP Configuration area; the extensions available depend on the website’s PHP version. Hostinger documents the options and save/reset controls in its PHP extensions and options guide.
-
Open the site’s PHP Info page and check the effective value. If it remains at a lower value, compare it with the limit for your hosting plan.
Hostinger states, “You can only set values that are equal to or lower than your hosting plan’s limit.” A higher value entered in the interface is not necessarily the value PHP will use. See Hostinger’s parameter-change instructions for the supported workflow.

Which PHP settings matter for common problems?
File upload errors
-
upload_max_filesizesets the maximum size of an individual file PHP accepts. -
post_max_sizelimits the total POST request data, including uploaded files. It should be larger than the intended individual file limit; if it is smaller, raising onlyupload_max_filesizemay not solve the upload failure.
Check both effective values in PHP Info and stay within your plan’s ceilings. Hostinger’s explanation of these settings is in its PHP parameter guide.
Memory and script timeouts
-
memory_limitcaps memory available to a PHP script.PC Slower Than It Used to Be?

max_execution_timesets how long a script may run. -
max_input_timecontrols how long PHP may spend parsing input.
Increase these only to address a demonstrated need. Higher limits can consume resources and do not fix inefficient code or memory leaks; Hostinger recommends optimizing the site and preserving resources for other processes. Its guidance on PHP values discusses the resource trade-offs.

Other options
Hostinger’s PHP Options guidance also identifies max_input_vars, timezone, and disabled functions as settings that may be available. The exact choices depend on the account and hosting environment.

Check the plan ceiling first
Limits differ among hosting plans and can change. Check the current limits for your own plan in hPanel rather than relying on a figure from another customer or an older guide. Hostinger’s plan parameters and limits page lists plan-specific ceilings; sustained resource use beyond the account’s capacity can contribute to errors such as HTTP 503.

Use .htaccess only when appropriate
If the parameter is not offered in PHP Options, Hostinger says it may be possible to set it through .htaccess. Check the plan limits and follow the provider’s .htaccess instructions. Do not assume every PHP directive can be overridden there; verify the effective result in PHP Info.
Understand php.ini access on managed plans
Direct access to php.ini is disabled on Hostinger Web and Cloud hosting plans because of their hosting environment architecture. The supported route is hPanel or, for some values, .htaccess. Hostinger identifies VPS hosting as the option when direct php.ini access and broader configuration control are required. See its php.ini access explanation.
Website built with AI Builder
The standard PHP parameter and extension instructions explicitly exclude AI Builder websites. Do not assume the hPanel route applies to those sites; consult support for the relevant product.
When to change a limit—and when not to
Set only the value your application needs, then verify what PHP actually applies. Setting every parameter to its maximum can use resources unnecessarily, while increasing a limit is only a temporary workaround when inefficient code or a memory leak is the underlying problem. If the site consistently needs more capacity than the plan allows, compare the current plan limits before considering a hosting change; an upgrade is not required just to use the PHP Options screen.
