If you want a turntable that is easy to connect and operate, look at the Sony PS-LX310BT or Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT. If you want to compare a broader mix of configurations, Pro-Ject’s Debut range is worth exploring. The right choice depends less on a universal ranking than on how you want to play records and what audio gear you already own.
Start with your speakers and connection options
Before choosing a deck, check how it will connect to your speakers, amplifier, or headphones. A turntable with a built-in phono preamp can send a line-level signal to equipment without a dedicated phono input. Bluetooth can avoid a cable connection, while USB can suit a computer-based recording setup.

- For Bluetooth: Sony lists Bluetooth on the PS-LX310BT; Audio-Technica specifies Bluetooth 5.2 on the AT-LP70XBT.
- For wired playback: Sony documents RCA and a built-in phono preamp with phono/line output. Audio-Technica documents a built-in phono preamp.
- For USB recording: Sony lists USB output, and Pro-Ject describes the Debut RecordMaster II as a USB-recording turntable.
Check the exact connection you plan to use against the turntable’s manual and your audio system. A feature such as Bluetooth does not by itself establish that a particular speaker or headphone setup is compatible.

Compare the models by the kind of setup they suit
| Model | What the cited sources establish | Best fit to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Sony PS-LX310BT | Sony lists belt drive, 33 1/3 and 45 rpm, Bluetooth, USB output, RCA cable, a built-in phono preamp with phono/line output, auto start, auto return, and auto stop. Sony says it does not play 78 rpm records. | A listener who wants automatic operation and several wired and wireless connection options. |
| Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT | The manual lists belt drive, 33 1/3 and 45 rpm, Bluetooth 5.2, a built-in phono preamp, and an AT-VM95C cartridge. TechRadar named it its budget pick in a November 2025 guide. | A listener considering an automatic Bluetooth deck with a built-in preamp. The budget label is TechRadar’s editorial choice, not a guarantee of current price or availability. |
| Pro-Ject Debut RecordMaster II | Pro-Ject lists it among models with an integrated phono preamp and describes it as a USB-recording turntable. | A reader comparing a turntable with built-in preamp and USB recording. |
| Pro-Ject Debut PRO S Balanced EXPO 2025 Edition | Pro-Ject’s catalog lists this special edition. That listing does not establish comparative performance. | A reader exploring Pro-Ject’s broader Debut catalog; verify the model’s connections and features before deciding. |
| Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo | TechRadar’s November 2025 guide selected it as its overall pick and lists 33, 45, and 78 rpm, with no phono preamp or USB. Those specifications are from the guide and should be checked against current official documentation. | A model to include in a wider comparison, rather than assume it is the best fit for every system. |
Pro-Ject’s catalog groups models by features such as integrated phono preamp and USB recording, which is useful when comparing configurations across the range. The catalog’s breadth does not make every model interchangeable: check the individual product documentation for the features you need.

Decide how much automation you want
Sony specifies one-step auto playback along with automatic return and stop on the PS-LX310BT. TechRadar describes the AT-LP70XBT as automatic and pre-calibrated. These features can reduce the steps involved in playing a record. A more hands-on deck may suit someone who prefers manual operation, but that alone does not make it sound better.
If automatic start or return matters to you, confirm the exact behavior in the current manual for the model and region you are considering. Do not assume that one feature description applies to every turntable in a product family.

Check record speeds before buying
The Sony PS-LX310BT supports 33 1/3 and 45 rpm records, and Sony support explicitly says it cannot play 78 rpm records. The Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT manual lists 33 1/3 and 45 rpm. If you own 78s, confirm 78 rpm support in the manufacturer’s documentation for the particular model; do not infer it from a different product in the same range.

What else do you need for a first setup?
Plan the signal path from the turntable to something that can play the sound. That may be powered speakers, an amplifier and passive speakers, or compatible Bluetooth audio equipment. A built-in phono preamp can simplify connection to equipment that lacks a phono input; without one, the system needs a phono stage elsewhere in the chain.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to read the vinyl-sales figure
The Recording Industry Association of America reported 46.8 million vinyl units sold in the United States in 2025, the nineteenth consecutive year of US growth, in its 2026 report announcement. That figure provides context for the vinyl revival; it is not a measure of global turntable demand or proof that every model is readily available.
