Windows 11 controls double-click speed in a classic Mouse Properties dialog, not on the main Mouse page of Settings. The route below uses Microsoft’s current steps, and it takes under a minute.
Where the double-click speed setting is
The double-click speed slider sits in the older Mouse Properties window, which Settings opens from a link. Microsoft’s support article “Change mouse settings” describes this route and states that it applies to both Windows 11 and Windows 10 (Microsoft Support: Change mouse settings).

Steps to change double-click speed
- Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse.
- Under Related settings, select Additional mouse settings.
- In the Mouse Properties window, select the Buttons tab if it is not already selected.
- Under Double-click speed, move the Speed slider to the position you want.
- Select OK to save the change.
Microsoft’s instructions do not give a numeric value for the slider or name a best position. The setting only changes the maximum gap Windows allows between two button presses for them to count as a double-click, so the right position depends on how you click.

Adjust the slider in small steps, and after each change, try your usual double-click action in the test area of the same window. This is a practical method rather than a published recommendation, and it lets you judge the result by what you actually see.

- If your double-clicks are being missed, which means two quick clicks register as separate single clicks, move the slider toward the slower end.
- If separate clicks are often read as one double-click, move the slider toward the faster end.
These are troubleshooting suggestions. A change to this setting does not repair a worn or faulty mouse button, and it does not affect how individual applications interpret clicks.
Do not confuse it with pointer speed
The setting people often look for next is Mouse pointer speed, which controls how far the cursor travels when you move the mouse. It is a separate control from double-click speed, and changing one does not change the other. Microsoft’s Mouse Settings page is the place for pointer movement; the Buttons tab in Mouse Properties is the place for double-click timing (Microsoft Support: Change mouse settings).
