From there, adjust the font, size, spacing, margins, alignment, or page appearance options your device offers. Use the separate font-size setting on supported models
Some newer Kindle e-readers have a device-level text-size control in addition to the Aa menu inside a book. Amazon documents it for Kindle E-Reader 11th Generation and later, Kindle Scribe, and Kindle Colorsoft. Open Settings > Screen and brightness > Display & text size, then adjust the size control. On Kindle Scribe, Amazon describes dragging or tapping the slider. This device-level option is not documented for every Kindle model. Amazon’s device font-size instructions
Change settings in the Kindle app
- Open a book in the Kindle app.
- Tap the top center of the screen to show the reading controls.
- Tap Aa, then choose the tab for the setting you want to change.
Depending on the app and device, controls can include font size and type, spacing, brightness, page color, margins, text alignment, orientation lock, themes, and assistive features. Android, iOS, macOS, web, and PC versions do not share one guaranteed menu, so use the options visible in your app. Amazon’s Kindle app reading-settings instructions

Which settings to try for common reading problems
- Text is too small: Increase the font size in the Aa menu; on supported e-readers, try the separate device-level text-size control.
- Letters look too thin: Increase boldness if the control is available.
- Lines feel crowded: Increase line or paragraph spacing in Layout, if offered.
- Text feels cramped at the edges: Adjust margins if your device or app provides the option.
- Justified lines look uneven: Try left alignment where available.
- The page background is uncomfortable: Try another page color or a saved theme if your version offers one.

Why a Kindle book may ignore your settings
Many Kindle books are reflowable: text and page layout adapt to the screen and to supported font and layout changes. Fixed-layout books preserve a designed page instead. This format can include print-replica books, manga, comics, and some children’s books or textbooks; font, color, margin, spacing, and alignment controls may not work as they do in a reflowable title. Amazon says a book’s detail page may indicate whether visual adjustments are supported, based on information from its publisher. Troubleshoot in this order
- Make sure you are changing settings from inside the open book’s Aa menu.
- Try the same setting in another reflowable book. If it works there, the original title may use a format that limits adjustments.
- Check the book’s detail-page accessibility information for visual-adjustment support.
Amazon’s publishing documentation describes layout features such as ragged-right alignment and other rendering refinements, but it does not guarantee the same result for every title or device. Amazon’s Enhanced Typesetting information
