To show everything on your phone screen, use screen mirroring instead. Google TV supports Google Cast; Fire TV app casting and Fire TV screen mirroring are separate routes, and Fire TV mirroring requires Miracast support on both the phone and the stick.
First choose: app casting or screen mirroring?
“Cast” can mean two different things. With app casting, a compatible app sends playback to the TV, while your phone acts as a remote. With screen mirroring, the TV displays the phone’s screen, including apps and other on-screen activity. The receiver and protocol requirements differ, so a Fire TV Stick should not be treated as a universal Google Cast receiver.

| Play a video from a supported app on Google TV | The app’s Cast button | The app supports Google Cast, and phone and TV share Wi-Fi |

| Play supported app content on Fire TV | The app’s Fire TV casting workflow | The app supports casting to Fire TV; Prime Video requires the same Amazon account on the phone app and Fire TV |
| Show the full Android screen on Fire TV | Fire TV screen mirroring | Both phone and Fire TV support Miracast |
Cast a supported app from Android to Google TV
- Connect the Android phone and Google TV to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open the video app and find its Cast icon.
- Tap Cast, choose the Google TV, and wait for the app to show that it is connected.
- To end playback on the TV, tap the Cast control again and disconnect.
The app must support Google Cast; Google recommends using its latest version. This sends the app’s media to the receiver rather than mirroring every item on your phone. Google’s Cast-enabled app instructions and Google TV casting help cover the workflow. Google’s app-casting help lists Android 6.0 or later as a requirement.
Mirror your Android screen to Google TV
For a full-screen mirror to a Google Cast receiver, use the screen-casting control in Google Home. Google documents this control for Android 8.0 or later. The exact phone menu can differ by manufacturer and software version, so start in Google Home rather than relying on a single universal “Cast” menu name.

- Make sure the phone and Google TV use the same Wi-Fi network name (SSID).
- Open Google Home and select the screen-casting action for the receiver.
- Follow the prompts to begin mirroring; use the same control to stop.
For discovery to work reliably, the Wi-Fi access point must allow devices to communicate; AP isolation should be disabled. Google’s Android screen-casting instructions explain the feature and network conditions.
Cast an app to Fire TV
Fire TV has an app-casting workflow separate from its screen-mirroring feature. Open the supported app on your phone, use that app’s cast control, and follow its prompts to connect to Fire TV. For Prime Video, Amazon says to sign in to the phone app with the Amazon account used on Fire TV. This sends supported app playback; it does not mirror the entire phone screen. See Amazon’s Cast Apps to Fire TV help.

Mirror an Android phone to Fire TV
Amazon’s built-in Fire TV mirroring route depends on Miracast. Amazon describes it this way: “You can mirror devices that support Miracast to your Fire TV, allowing you to access its display on the bigger screen.” Both the Android phone and the Fire TV Stick must support Miracast; compatible Wi-Fi alone does not make a phone and stick using different protocols work together.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- On Fire TV, open the screen-mirroring option if it is available.
- On the phone, look for its wireless display or screen-mirroring control and check the phone maker’s documentation for Miracast support.
- If the Fire TV appears in the phone’s compatible-device list, select it and accept any prompts.
If Fire TV does not offer a mirroring option, Amazon says the device is not compatible with that mirroring flow. Amazon also lists Android devices without Miracast support as unable to screen mirror. Check Amazon’s Fire TV screen-mirroring guidance and device compatibility information. Model-specific support varies, so do not assume every Android phone or Fire TV Stick works.

Fix a TV that does not appear
Google TV is missing from an app’s Cast list
- Confirm the phone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network. A phone that switches between isolated networks may not discover the receiver; Google notes that forgetting a secondary network or temporarily disabling Adaptive connectivity can help in this specific Google Cast app-discovery case.
- On Google TV, check Settings > Apps > See all apps for Google Cast. If it is not visible, show system apps or check disabled apps, then enable it.
- Update the TV and restart it. Confirm the phone app is current and supports Google Cast.
Google’s Google TV casting troubleshooting provides these receiver checks.
Google Home says there is no compatible receiver
- Check that Google TV and the phone use the same SSID, and that AP isolation is disabled on the access point.
- Install the latest Google Home app and Google Play services.
- If the receiver remains undiscoverable, power cycle the router, Android phone, and TV.

Fire TV does not appear for mirroring
Check Miracast support on both devices first. A missing Fire TV in the phone’s standard Cast list can indicate a protocol mismatch, not a Wi-Fi fault. If either device lacks Miracast, use an app that supports casting to Fire TV or choose a receiver compatible with the phone’s wireless-display protocol.
Which method should you use?
- Choose app casting when you want to watch supported video and control playback from the phone.
- Choose Google Home screen casting when you need the whole Android display on a Google Cast receiver.
- Choose Fire TV mirroring only when both the phone and stick support Miracast.
If you are choosing hardware, Google identifies the Google TV Streamer (4K) among its supported Google streaming devices; it is not necessary if you already have a compatible Google TV. See Google’s streaming-device information.
