You can also tap the keyboard’s Settings icon while typing. From there, adjust language, typing suggestions, appearance, toolbar, and other options. Samsung notes that available screens and settings can vary by service provider and software version, so use your tablet’s Settings search if a menu path differs.
Open Samsung Keyboard settings
- Open the tablet’s Settings app.
- Tap the search icon or search field, enter Samsung Keyboard, then select the matching settings result.
- Alternatively, open the on-screen keyboard in an app and tap its Settings icon, if shown.
The exact menu labels and available options depend on the tablet’s software and region. Samsung’s Galaxy tablet keyboard guide notes that screens and settings may vary by wireless service provider and software version.

How do I change the keyboard input language?
Add or enable a language
In Settings, search for Manage input languages. Enable a language that is already downloaded, or choose a language from the available-language list to download it. On some software versions, the route is Language and input → On-screen keyboard → Samsung Keyboard → Languages and types → Manage input languages; these labels may differ between devices.
Switch languages while typing
After enabling or downloading the language, open the keyboard and swipe left or right across the spacebar, or tap the language icon if it appears. Samsung documents both methods in its language-switching instructions.

Choose a keyboard mode
With the keyboard open in an app, tap its Settings icon and select Mode. Samsung lists three modes for tablets:
| Mode | What it does | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Shows the regular full-width keyboard. | For a familiar, full-width layout. |
| Split | Places one half of the keyboard on each side of the tablet. | Consider it when holding a wide tablet and typing with both hands. |
| Floating | Creates a keyboard that can be moved around the screen. | Consider it when you need to move the keyboard away from content. |
These modes change the keyboard’s placement and arrangement; Samsung does not claim that one is faster or better for everyone. See its keyboard mode instructions if the menu is named differently on your tablet.

Adjust typing, appearance, and toolbar options
In Samsung Keyboard settings, look for the options relevant to how you type. Depending on the tablet, controls may include:

- Typing and suggestions: predictive text, emoji or sticker suggestions, auto-replace, corrections, and text shortcuts.
- Layout and appearance: toolbar visibility, themes, high-contrast keyboard, key layout, font size, and keyboard size or transparency.
- Input methods and feedback: voice input, handwriting, translation, S Pen to text, and touch or key-press feedback.
This list describes possible controls, not features available on every Galaxy tablet. For example, Samsung says Writing assist is not available on all Galaxy tablets and requires a compatible tablet running Android 14 and One UI 6.1.1 or later. Check the settings on your own device for the options it supports.

Erase personalized predictions
If you want Samsung Keyboard to forget words it learned from your typing, go to Settings → General management → Samsung Keyboard settings → Reset to default settings → Erase personalized predictions. Menu wording can vary by software version.
Erasing personalized predictions is different from clearing the keyboard app’s data. Samsung warns that clearing data removes keyboard settings and saved words. If the keyboard is malfunctioning, follow Samsung’s Samsung Keyboard troubleshooting steps before trying actions that erase data; its guidance also covers optimization, restarting, clearing cache or data, software updates, and Safe mode. A factory reset erases device data and is not a routine keyboard-settings fix.

How do I change the default keyboard?
You do not need another app to customize Samsung Keyboard. If you do want to use a different keyboard app, install it from Google Play, enable it under Keyboard list and default, then select it under Default keyboard. The precise route may differ by software version; searching Settings for those labels can help locate the controls.

No. An external keyboard cover is optional and is not needed to change on-screen keyboard settings. Samsung lists model-specific Book Cover Keyboard options for certain Tab S10, S9, A9+, S8, and S7 models, and says the Galaxy Tab A8 does not have a keyboard cover. Check the exact tablet model and Samsung’s accessory compatibility guidance before buying; a cover designed for one Galaxy Tab may not fit another.
