To change iPhone keyboard behavior, open Settings > General > Keyboard. Turn Auto-Correction off to stop automatic spelling changes, or turn Predictive Text off to hide word and phrase suggestions. These are separate controls, so changing one does not necessarily disable the other.
Open the iPhone keyboard settings
Go to Settings > General > Keyboard, then change the controls you need. Apple gives the same route in its iPhone onscreen-keyboard guide.

You can also open Keyboard Settings from the onscreen keyboard: touch and hold the Emoji button or keyboard-switch key, then tap Keyboard Settings. Labels and available features can vary by iOS version and language.

Stop words from changing automatically
Turn off Auto-Correction at Settings > General > Keyboard > Auto-Correction. This is the spelling-correction control: Apple says it uses the keyboard dictionary to correct misspelled words and is on by default. Turning it off does not, by itself, turn off Predictive Text.
#1 Best Overall
- Can't Connect the Bluetooth? Please reset the keyboard and then reconnect the Bluetooth: 1. Turn on the keyboarad; 2. Press and hold the first and the last key at the top row of the keyboard until all indicators start flashing; 3. Bluetooth light flickers quickly, auto entering Bluetooth pairing mode (If not, press Fn + 1 or 2); 4. Search and find "Wireless keyboard".
- Multi-OS Compatible: The keyboard is widely compatible with Android, Windows and iOS devices. Also the basic typing function works with other OS devices such as fire tablets.
- Connect 2 Devices: Seamless switching between 2 Bluetooth devices (iOS/Android/Windows) with single-tap transitions (Fn+"1"/ "2").
- Orange Keys for Productivity Boost: The color-coded design help you to position the keys effortlessly and reduce mistyping. The orange keys are more visible than standard keys, engineered for speed typists.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: Only 6oz weight and slim 0.6in profile fits in most handbags. The flexible hinge allows you to fold it up for travel – perfect for coffee shops, flights, or campus life.
In iOS 17 and later, a corrected word is temporarily underlined. Tap the underlined word to edit the correction. See Apple’s Auto-Correction and predictive text instructions.
Hide suggested words and inline predictions
Turn off Predictive Text in Settings > General > Keyboard to hide likely words or phrases shown above the keyboard. In supported versions and languages, predictions can also appear inline as you type; switching Predictive Text off disables inline predictions too. Spelling corrections may still appear if Auto-Correction remains on. Apple notes that predictive typing is not available for every language in its Predictive Text guide.
Choose which behavior to change
- Words are being replaced: switch off Auto-Correction.
- You want to keep your typing but remove suggestions: switch off Predictive Text.
- You want both behaviors stopped: switch off both controls.
Keep a preferred word or create a text shortcut
Text Replacement can expand a short shortcut into a longer phrase. Open Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement, add the phrase and shortcut, then save. Apple also documents a way to keep a word or phrase from being corrected: add it as a phrase and leave the shortcut blank. Instructions are in Apple’s Text Replacement guide.
Resetting the keyboard dictionary is a broader change: it deletes custom words and shortcuts. Try a targeted Text Replacement entry first if only one word is a problem.

Adjust settings for a physical keyboard or typing aids
An external keyboard is optional; it is not needed to change onscreen keyboard settings. iPhone supports Magic Keyboard and other physical keyboards. For accessibility options such as Key Repeat, Sticky Keys, and Slow Keys, open Settings > Accessibility > Keyboards & Typing. These controls adjust physical-keyboard input rather than Auto-Correction or onscreen suggestions; see Apple’s keyboard accessibility settings guide.
