The setting that controls egg hatch speed
Palworld bases its incubation-time setting on the largest egg category. The world-settings label is Time (h) to incubate Massive Egg; current terminology may call that category a Huge Egg. The documented range is 0 to 240 hours.

Lower numbers shorten the baseline incubation period for every egg. A value of 0 means the world has no configured incubation time, so eggs incubate instantly. Higher values preserve more of the normal progression. Smaller eggs hatch in less time than Huge eggs because their duration scales down from the largest-egg value.
This setting controls the timer itself. It is not the same as day/night speed, player-stat multipliers, or any other world multiplier.

Change hatch speed in a single-player or local world
Set the value before loading the save. The exact button text can vary slightly by platform or game version, but the relevant control is the world’s custom-settings screen.
- From the world-selection screen, select the Palworld save whose rules you want to change.
- Open that world’s custom or world settings instead of loading directly into the game.
- Find Time (h) to incubate Massive Egg. If your interface uses current terminology, look for the equivalent Huge Egg label.
- Enter a number from 0 through 240. Lower the number to shorten the timer; enter 0 for instant incubation.
- Save the world settings, then load the save.
- Place an egg in an incubator and check the displayed timer. The egg’s size affects its actual duration, so a smaller egg will not show the same time as a Huge egg under the same setting.
Choosing a value without removing progression
If instant hatching makes breeding feel too permissive, choose a low nonzero value instead. The setting is expressed in hours for the largest egg, so the same value produces a shorter effective period for smaller eggs. There is no need to edit several egg-size controls: this one setting establishes the baseline from which the other sizes scale.

Do not wait until the save is already loaded to look for this control. The documented workflow is to open the custom world settings before entering the world. If you are managing a hosted world through a provider’s control panel, use that panel’s world-settings editor or its server configuration method rather than changing a local single-player save.

Change egg speed on a dedicated server
Dedicated servers do not use the single-player menu. Their hatch-time control is the PalEggDefaultHatchingTime parameter in the server’s active PalWorldSettings.ini. The official Palworld Server Guide, version 1.0.4, defines this value as the number of hours required to hatch a Huge Egg.
- Stop the dedicated server or place it in the provider’s maintenance state so it is not rewriting the file while you edit it.
- Open the server’s active configuration directory:
Pal/Saved/Config/<platform>Server/. - Open
PalWorldSettings.ini. This is the live settings file read by the running server. - If the active file has not been created, follow the official guide’s procedure of copying the default settings template into the active file, then edit the copied file.
- Find
PalEggDefaultHatchingTimeand change its numeric value. A zero value represents no configured baseline hours; a larger value preserves a longer timer. Keep the parameter’s spelling and punctuation intact. - Save the active file. Do not leave the new value only in
DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini. - Start or restart the server so it reads the modified configuration.
- Join the server, put an egg in an incubator, and verify the timer. Check a Huge egg when you want to compare the displayed value directly with the hours defined by the parameter.
The active file matters
DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini is a template, not the live configuration that applies changes to an already configured server. Editing that default file alone does not change the running server. The file that matters is the active PalWorldSettings.ini inside the platform-specific server configuration directory.
Restart is part of the change
Saving an INI file does not necessarily reload settings in a running process. Restart the server after saving. If your host has separate “save,” “apply,” and “restart” controls, use all of them in that order and reconnect only after the server is online again.

Improve incubation with egg temperature
The hatch-time setting establishes the timer, while the incubator’s temperature provides a separate speed modifier. An incubator reporting an unsuitable temperature incubates more slowly. Add the appropriate in-game heat or cooling source—such as a campfire, heater, or cooler—to correct the condition.
The Pal Eggs reference documents two comfort states:
- “Seems just a little cold/hot”: +50% incubation speed.
- “Seems very comfortable”: +100% incubation speed.
These are speed bonuses, not additional reductions to the world-setting number. A +100% speed state means the incubator is operating at twice its baseline speed; it does not change the configured hours shown in the world or server setting. Temperature optimization therefore complements a lower timer instead of replacing it.

Practical temperature check
- Look at the incubator’s temperature message while the egg is inside.
- If it says the egg is cold, add a suitable heat source and position it so the incubator recognizes the warmth.
- If it says the egg is hot, use a cooling source instead.
- Wait for the comfort message to update, then compare the remaining timer before changing the world or server configuration again.

Troubleshooting hatch timers that still look wrong
The timer did not change after editing a server file
- Confirm that the path ends in the active platform-specific server directory and that you edited
PalWorldSettings.ini. - Check that you did not change only
DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini; that file is the template. - Stop and restart the server after saving. A running process may continue using the previous value.
- Reopen the file after the restart to ensure the value was saved and was not overwritten by a control panel.
The value changed, but eggs are still taking a long time
- Inspect the incubator’s temperature message. “A little cold/hot” or an unsuitable condition slows incubation independently of the timer setting.
- Add the appropriate campfire, heater, or cooler and wait for the comfort state to update.
- Check the egg size. The server value is defined for a Huge Egg; smaller eggs scale down from that maximum, so comparing different eggs can make the displayed times appear inconsistent.
I changed day/night speed instead
Day/night speed does not control egg incubation. Return to the specific Time (h) to incubate Massive Egg world setting or the dedicated-server PalEggDefaultHatchingTime parameter.
The setting label says Huge rather than Massive
Use the equivalent largest-egg setting. The documented world label uses “Massive Egg,” while current terminology may use “Huge Egg”; both refer to the anchor category for the incubation-time control.
The server starts but ignores the new parameter
- Check the parameter name character by character:
PalEggDefaultHatchingTime. - Make sure the number is attached to that parameter in the active INI rather than placed in a comment or a different settings file.
- Verify that the server was fully restarted after the edit and that you joined the same server instance whose files you changed.
Examples of sensible configurations
Instant breeding test world
For a private test world, set the single-player control to 0. On a dedicated server, set PalEggDefaultHatchingTime to 0, restart, and verify the result with an incubator. Keep the incubator at a suitable temperature so a poor comfort state does not obscure whether the timer setting loaded.
Fast but not instant
Choose a low nonzero number in the allowed range. This leaves a visible incubation step while removing most of the wait. The exact displayed time varies by egg size because the setting is anchored to the largest category.
Normal timer with better conditions
Leave the world or server value at its preferred progression level and focus on temperature. Correcting an unsuitable condition and reaching “Seems very comfortable” supplies the documented +100% incubation-speed state without changing the global timer.
