PlayStation does not offer a general way to change the date of birth on an adult PlayStation Network account. Its support guidance says the birth date entered at account creation can’t be changed later, and it treats that date as security information. The one documented exception is narrow: in the UK and Ireland, a parent or guardian can add an existing child account to their family, and that process lets the child enter their date of birth again. If you simply need to fix a wrong birthday on an adult account, the official route is limited to recovery and Support, not self-service editing.
Why the birthday is locked after account creation
PlayStation’s account-creation guidance for the UK states the rule directly: “This is required for security measures. Make sure to enter your date of birth correctly. This can’t be changed later.” The Canadian version of the same guide repeats the restriction, so it is not limited to a single region. Because the birth date is tied to security checks, the practical advice is to verify it before you finish creating the account rather than assume it can be corrected afterwards.

Option 1: Move an existing child account into a family (UK and Ireland only)
PlayStation documents one case where a birth date is updated: a parent or guardian adds an existing child account to their family. This is a family-management process, not an edit form for the birthday field, and PlayStation states that it is currently available only in the UK and Ireland. Both the parent or guardian account and the child account must belong to the same country. If you live elsewhere, PlayStation’s documentation for this route does not apply to you.

Steps for the parent or guardian
- Sign in to Account Management on the parent or guardian’s account.
- Open Family Management > Add Family Member.
- Confirm that the child already has a PlayStation account.
- Enter the child’s sign-in ID and date of birth.
- Read the description of what changes when the account is converted, then agree and send the family request.
Steps for the child
- Sign in to Account Management on the child’s account.
- Open Family Management and select the family request you received.
- Continue, then enter your date of birth when prompted.
Once the child joins the family, the account becomes a child account managed through the PlayStation Family app. The official child-account page is here: PlayStation, How to send a family request to your child’s account (UK/Ireland).
If the new birth date does not show in a game
PlayStation’s support page advises that if the updated birth date is not reflected in a game, you should restart the console and try again. This troubleshooting step applies only after a child account has gone through the family process above. It does not mean the birthday on an adult account can be edited in the same way.

Option 2: You cannot sign in because you forgot your date of birth
Forgotten verification details, including the date of birth, are a sign-in problem rather than a birthday-editing request. PlayStation’s sign-in troubleshooting guidance directs you to its account recovery steps or to Support. Use that route to regain access to the account. Recovering access does not guarantee that the stored birth date will be changed, so do not assume the recovery process will correct the birthday itself.

- Start with the account recovery guidance on the PlayStation sign-in troubleshooting page.
- If recovery steps do not work, contact PlayStation Support and explain that the date of birth is the verification detail you cannot provide.
- Have the account’s sign-in details and any identifying information ready before you contact Support, so the team can check the request.
Keep the birthday accurate from the start
PlayStation’s rules ask users to provide truthful account information, and specifically the correct birthday, and they prohibit misrepresenting age. Entering a false date to unlock content or to get around age settings is a violation of those rules, and it is also the reason the birth date is locked. If your situation does not match any row, the official documentation does not describe another way to change the birthday, so the accurate answer is that the date stays as entered.
