You can also go to Profile → Settings → Player. Change narration speed from the player’s Speed control, or set a default for new listens in Player settings. Audible’s Cloud Player also has a Speed control, but the general Player settings menu is app-only.
Open Audible Player settings
- Start a title and open its player.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu) at the top of the player.
- Choose Player settings.
You can also open Profile → Settings (the gear icon) → Player. Audible lists options there for the progress bar (chapter or whole title), skip-forward and skip-back duration, mini-player time display, timer shake extension, screen auto-lock, Automatic Car Mode, listening-position sync, and continuous listening. These general Player settings are available in the Audible iOS and Android apps, not the Cloud Player. Audible Help: Customize player settings

Change narration speed
For the title you are listening to
In the app, open the title’s player, tap Speed at the bottom, and select a rate. Audible says the selected rate is saved for that title across apps. In the Cloud Player, start playback and use the Speed control at the bottom of the player. Audible Help: Change speed for a particular title

In the app, go to Profile → Settings → Player → Narration Speed → Default, then select a rate. Audible’s starting default is 1.0x. Defaults can differ by device, so check the setting on the device where you want to apply it.

Set or change a sleep timer
While a title is playing in the app, tap Timer and choose a preset or create and save a custom duration. Playback stops when the timer expires. To replace a countdown that is already running, open Timer again and select a different time. The timer is an app feature. Audible Help: Set the timer
Turn shake-to-extend on or off
Audible says you can extend an expired timer for the same amount by shaking your phone within 30 seconds after the audio starts to fade. To control this behavior, go to Profile → Settings → Player → Timer → Shake to extend.

Choose what plays after a title
Go to Profile → Settings → Player, scroll to Continuous listening, and toggle Up next titles to let queued titles start automatically. To add a title to the queue, open it from Library, tap its More menu, and choose Play next; alternatively, press and hold the title and choose Play Next.

To hear related-title previews after the current listen, enable Recommended titles under Continuous listening. A queued title takes precedence, so recommendations play only when nothing else is queued. Audible Help: Continuous listening

Control listening-position sync
Audible says the app automatically syncs your listening position across devices. To turn this setting on or off, go to Profile → Settings → Player and toggle Sync listening position. If syncing is not working as expected, Audible’s app guide suggests toggling the setting off and back on. Audible Help: Listen in the app

Audible’s instructions cover its US English help pages and do not establish that every label or option is identical across app versions, devices, or marketplaces. If your interface differs, look for the equivalent Player, Speed, or timer control in the app. For narration speed in the Cloud Player, use its player-level Speed control; the broader Player settings menu is limited to the iOS and Android apps.
