To change the dimensions of ArchiveBox’s screenshot output, set SCREENSHOT_RESOLUTION to width,height—with a comma, not an “x”—for example: SCREENSHOT_RESOLUTION=1920,1080. You can save it with the CLI, put it in the collection’s ArchiveBox.conf, or set it for one process with an environment variable.
Change screenshot resolution
ArchiveBox’s Screenshot plugin captures a PNG of the rendered page and requires the Chrome plugin. The documented default screenshot resolution is 1440,2000. To set a 1920-by-1080 output size persistently, run:

- CLI: Use
archivebox config --set SCREENSHOT_RESOLUTION=1920,1080to save the setting through ArchiveBox. - Configuration file: In the data folder’s
ArchiveBox.conf, add this line under the existing[ARCHIVING_CONFIG]section:[ARCHIVING_CONFIG] SCREENSHOT_RESOLUTION=1920,1080 - Environment variable for one process: Set the variable on the command that starts the capture:
env SCREENSHOT_RESOLUTION=1920,1080 archivebox add 'https://example.com'
These are supported configuration paths described in the ArchiveBox configuration guide. Environment variables seed process-level defaults; persisted Machine, Persona, Crawl, and Snapshot settings can take precedence within their scopes. Setting an environment variable does not silently rewrite existing Crawl configuration.

Screenshot-specific or shared resolution?
Use SCREENSHOT_RESOLUTION when you want to change screenshot dimensions without changing other plugin outputs. The shared RESOLUTION setting is a fallback used by Screenshot, PDF, and Chrome resolution settings. ArchiveBox’s documented precedence is the plugin-specific setting first, the corresponding shared option second, and the plugin’s hardcoded default last. Set RESOLUTION only if you intend to affect that shared fallback.
CHROME_RESOLUTION is separately documented as the browser viewport resolution. It is not described as a substitute for SCREENSHOT_RESOLUTION. If you need to change both the viewport and the screenshot output size, treat them as separate settings and check the configuration reference for your installed version.

Wait for dynamic page content
If a page’s content appears after the initial load, configure the screenshot wait settings rather than relying only on a larger output size:

SCREENSHOT_WAIT_FOR_TEXTwaits for specified text in the page or a child frame. Its documented default is empty.SCREENSHOT_WAIT_FOR_FRAME_URLnarrows that text search to frames whose URL contains the supplied value. Its documented default is empty.
Set the frame URL filter when the text you are waiting for is expected inside a particular embedded frame. The settings and documented behaviors are listed in the Screenshot plugin reference.

Control screenshot capture and timeout
SCREENSHOT_ENABLEDtoggles screenshot extraction and is documented as enabled by default (true).SCREENSHOT_TIMEOUTsets the per-capture time limit in seconds. The documented default is 60 seconds and the minimum is 5. If it is not set, ArchiveBox falls back toTIMEOUT.
For a slow page, consider whether a longer timeout is appropriate; a timeout setting does not guarantee that the page will finish rendering. Confirm accepted values in the plugin reference for your installed version.
Check the effective configuration and Chromium runtime
- Check the value ArchiveBox reads with
archivebox config --get SCREENSHOT_RESOLUTION. - Search available settings with
archivebox config --search screenshot. - Confirm the selected browser version and path with
archivebox version.
The configuration guide recommends checking the installed configuration because setting names and defaults can evolve. ArchiveBox’s Chromium setup guide says archivebox install chrome resolves a compatible browser already on the host when possible, or installs a managed Chromium build otherwise. The project README describes archivebox install as the way to install extractor dependencies.

Troubleshooting
- The dimensions did not change: Check that the value uses a comma, such as
1920,1080, and inspect the effective value witharchivebox config --get SCREENSHOT_RESOLUTION. A persisted scope-specific value may override an environment default. - The browser or screenshot extractor is unavailable: The Screenshot plugin requires the Chrome plugin. Run
archivebox install chrometo resolve or install its Chromium runtime, then usearchivebox versionto inspect the selected version and path. - The screenshot misses content that appears later: Configure
SCREENSHOT_WAIT_FOR_TEXT; if the relevant text belongs to an embedded frame, also setSCREENSHOT_WAIT_FOR_FRAME_URLto match its URL. - A capture ends before the page is ready: Review
SCREENSHOT_TIMEOUTand the sharedTIMEOUTfallback. The documented screenshot timeout minimum is 5 seconds. - A configuration name or default differs: Check the installed collection with
archivebox config --search screenshotand consult its version-specific plugin reference.

Not necessarily. ArchiveBox documents CHROME_RESOLUTION separately for browser viewport resolution; SCREENSHOT_RESOLUTION controls screenshot output dimensions.
