Apple Music’s audio-quality controls are in different places on each platform. Open the settings for your device, enable Lossless Audio if you want it, then choose separate quality levels for streaming and downloads. On iPhone, you can also set cellular and Wi-Fi streaming separately.

Open Settings and go to Apps > Music > Audio Quality. On some iOS versions, the Music settings may appear directly in Settings rather than under Apps.

Choose a quality for Cellular Streaming, Wi-Fi Streaming, and Downloads. The streaming connection types and downloads can be configured independently.

Open the Apple Music app and tap More.

Tap Settings > Audio Quality.

Turn on Lossless, then choose the quality for streaming and downloads.
Labels and menu placement may differ with app or Android versions.

Choose between High Quality, Lossless, and Hi-Res Lossless
Apple documents these as format ceilings, not a promise that every song is available at the selected level. Its catalog includes ALAC lossless encodings, but availability varies by track. Apple Support explains that “ALAC is a lossless compression format that preserves all of the original data in the file.” Look for the Lossless icon on supported material; selecting a higher setting does not upgrade a track that is not offered in that format. Set streaming and download quality to suit your use
Streaming and downloaded music have separate controls, so you can choose different levels for each. On iPhone, cellular and Wi-Fi streaming are also separate. Consider your mobile data plan, connection reliability, available storage, and listening equipment rather than automatically selecting the highest option. Apple’s cited guidance does not provide a universal data-use or storage figure, and the actual track availability matters.

Check whether your headphones or speakers can play lossless
Apple says lossless listening on iPhone is possible through wired headphones, receivers, powered speakers, or the built-in speakers. Bluetooth AirPods use Apple’s AAC Bluetooth codec, so a Bluetooth connection does not deliver a lossless Bluetooth stream. Wired output is the straightforward choice when your goal is lossless playback.
For iPhone playback above 48 kHz, Apple says an external digital-to-analog converter (DAC) is required. For Android and computers, hardware requirements vary; Apple says a DAC might be needed above 48 kHz and recommends checking the device manufacturer. A DAC is not a general requirement for standard Lossless, and connector compatibility depends on your device.
Dolby Atmos is a separate setting
Dolby Atmos is spatial audio, not a higher Lossless tier. On Mac and Windows, Playback settings offer Automatic, Always On, and Off. Atmos availability depends on supported tracks and playback equipment; a Dolby icon identifies supported music. On Windows, playback requires Dolby Access.
