To download Apple Music songs in Lossless quality, enable Lossless Audio and set the download quality in your device’s Apple Music settings, add the song, album, or playlist to your library, then download it. Existing downloads do not change when you turn Lossless on: delete the old copy and download it again. The steps vary by device, and Lossless availability can vary by country or region.
Download Lossless music on iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings, then go to Apps > Music > Audio Quality.
- Turn on Lossless Audio, then choose the quality under the download setting. Apple’s support guide describes standard Lossless up to 24-bit/48 kHz and Hi-Res Lossless up to 24-bit/192 kHz; higher resolutions require more storage. Apple’s Lossless audio guide explains the available options.
- Open the Apple Music app and find the song, album, or playlist you want. Add it to your library.
- Tap the item’s Download control. Once downloaded, it is available for offline listening.
Download Lossless music on a Mac
- Open the Apple Music app and open its Playback settings.
- Turn on Lossless Audio, then choose the separate download-quality setting.
- Find the song, album, or playlist and add it to your library.
- Use its Download control to save it for offline listening.

Android, Apple Vision Pro, and PC
Apple also supports downloading music on Android, Apple Vision Pro, and PC. The settings names and playback requirements differ by platform and app version. Use the audio-quality settings in your version of Apple Music to enable Lossless and choose the download quality, then add the music to your library and download it. Redownload music saved before enabling Lossless
Changing the quality setting does not upgrade files already downloaded to your device. Remove the downloaded copy, leave the item in your library, and download it again after Lossless is enabled. Apple explains the remove-and-redownload process in its Lossless audio guide.

Choose a quality that fits your storage and listening setup

Apple lists catalogue resolutions from 16-bit/44.1 kHz to 24-bit/192 kHz. It does not publish a universal download size per song or album, so the space required depends on the music and chosen quality. Check available storage before downloading a large library.

Downloading Lossless does not guarantee that every listening connection preserves that quality. Apple states, “Bluetooth connections aren’t lossless.” For Lossless playback, use a wired connection to headphones, a receiver, or powered speakers. For Hi-Res playback above 48 kHz, an external DAC may be needed depending on the device. A DAC is not required simply to download music or listen offline.

Apple Music catalogue availability and Lossless availability may vary by country or region. Not every track is necessarily offered in Lossless.
