In OBS, prepare the replacement source or scene, check it, then transition it to the live output without selecting Stop Streaming. This avoids intentionally ending the current session, but it cannot guarantee a perfectly gapless change. If you mean replacing the encoder, stream key, or managed service, that is a separate connection handoff; YouTube does not document a universal way to make that handoff without interruption.
First identify what you are changing
“Changing the loop service” can mean changing the material being played, or changing the system that sends the live feed to YouTube. Those are different operations, and only the first has a straightforward in-session workflow.

YouTube describes stream keys this way: “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” A key tells the encoder how and where to send the feed; it is not the same thing as the content being played.

This workflow is for an OBS-based stream where the YouTube event, destination, and outgoing connection are staying the same. YouTube accepts a feed from streaming software or a standalone hardware encoder; the steps below use OBS because its media sources, playlists, scenes, and transitions support this kind of content change.

- Confirm the scope. Make sure you are changing only the devotional media or its presentation. Leave the current YouTube event and OBS streaming connection in place.
- Prepare the replacement source. In OBS, add a Media Source for one local audio or video file and enable its Loop setting if it should repeat. For a playlist, use the VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist; VLC must be installed for that source.
- Build or update the destination scene. Place the new source where it belongs and check that the file plays, the picture is framed as intended, and the audio is audible at an appropriate level. Prepare this before taking it live so you are not troubleshooting on the program output.
- Preview the change. If you use OBS Studio Mode, prepare the scene in Preview and inspect it before transitioning it to Program. Choose the transition you intend to use. Studio Mode helps separate preparation from the live output; it does not guarantee that every setup will switch without a brief visual or audio artifact.
- Transition while the outgoing feed remains active. Use the scene transition to put the prepared content on the live output. Do not press Stop Streaming in OBS or end the live stream in YouTube Studio if your aim is to retain the current live session.
- Monitor after the change. Watch the YouTube preview and OBS connection indicators. Confirm that the new content continues to play and that audio remains present. Monitoring can help reveal a problem; it cannot prevent all network, encoder, or playback failures.
If you are changing the key, encoder, or service
A change to the outgoing connection is not a source change. YouTube’s encoder setup uses a stream URL and key, and its help guidance says to update the encoder settings after resetting a key. That guidance does not establish that switching keys, encoder software or hardware, or a managed service will preserve the same live event without interruption.
- For a key reset: obtain the new key in YouTube’s live-stream settings and update the encoder with that key. Treat this as a planned connection reconfiguration, not as a guaranteed seamless change.
- For a new encoder or service: check that it can be configured for YouTube’s required ingest settings, determine who controls the key, and understand how it reports connection loss and recovery. Also confirm whether the existing YouTube event can be retained; do not assume it can.
- For hardware: a standalone streaming encoder is an alternative to software encoding, not a validated shortcut for seamless migration. Check the specific device’s source-change and reconnection behavior before relying on it for a live devotional stream.
If keeping the current live page is essential, avoid changing the connection during the stream unless you have verified the handoff procedure for your exact setup and can accept the possibility of an interruption. YouTube’s documentation explains how to connect and end an encoder stream, but does not describe a universal seamless migration method.

What the official guidance does—and does not—establish
YouTube Help’s “Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder” describes software and hardware encoders, connecting with a stream URL and key, and ending the feed. “Manage live stream settings” covers stream keys and resetting them. OBS Project’s “Media Sources” documents looping media and playlists, including the VLC requirement for the VLC source; its “OBS Studio Overview Guide” covers scenes and Studio Mode transitions. OBS “Profiles” stores stream and output settings separately from scenes. Together, these sources support changing program content inside a running OBS production, not a promise of zero dropped frames or a guarantee that a different provider can take over an active YouTube event without interruption.
