Sceptre button layouts and menu shortcuts vary by model, so check the model number and matching manual before relying on those steps for another TV.
First, identify your Sceptre TV model
Find the model number on the label on the back or side of the TV, or in its paperwork. Use that number to locate the matching manual on Sceptre’s website. A button labeled SOURCE, HOME/MHL, or another name may behave differently across models; a sequence documented for one TV is not universal.

Switch to HDMI using the TV’s controls
U50-series: open the source list from the side of the display
- Connect the HDMI output of your set-top box or other device to an HDMI port on the TV.
- Turn on both the TV and the connected device. Check that the device is configured to send video over HDMI.
- Press the button on the side of the display to open source selection.
- Use the up or down directional control to highlight the connected HDMI input, then press ENTER.
These controls and steps are documented in the Sceptre U50 Series UHD TV User Manual. The manual also documents a SOURCE button that cycles through inputs and an HDMI button for direct selection on that model’s remote.

Do not assume your TV has the U50-series side button or the same source menu. For example, the Sceptre E246 manual describes a HOME/MHL button that selects HDMI for an MHL or regular HDMI connection on that model. Follow the instructions for your exact model rather than trying to transfer that shortcut to another display.

If the TV controls cannot select HDMI
If the built-in controls are missing, inaccessible, or do not let you confirm a source, use a replacement or programmable remote that is verified for your exact model. Check that it supports source selection or direct HDMI selection before buying. Remote compatibility and button functions can vary: the U50-series manual names Sony’s universal-remote code family for that model, but that does not establish the same code for every Sceptre TV.
Can HDMI-CEC or a phone app change the input?
HDMI-CEC
CEC can let a compatible HDMI-connected device and TV control certain functions through one remote. Sceptre describes CEC on the U508CV-UMKR product page, but support and behavior depend on the TV, connected device, settings, and setup. Do not count on powering on a streaming device to switch every Sceptre TV to HDMI automatically.

Phone apps
Do not assume a phone app can control your Sceptre TV. The available manufacturer information does not establish a universal Sceptre app or broad model coverage for changing inputs. Check official support for your model before relying on app control.

If HDMI is selected but there is no picture
- Confirm the TV is set to the HDMI port the device is actually plugged into.
- Make sure both devices are powered on and the external device is configured to output a picture over HDMI.
- If the TV controls still cannot reach or confirm the source menu, use the model-specific manual or a verified compatible remote rather than assuming the HDMI connection itself is the problem.
