Use your browser’s or operating system’s built-in screenshot tool, save the image to a local folder, and do not attach or paste it into an AI service. In Firefox, right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot; use its DevTools tools for full-page or single-element captures.
A local capture avoids sending the image to an AI service as part of the capture step. It does not prevent later exposure if the file is uploaded, pasted, synced, or shared. Check where the screenshot will go before handing it to another app.

Capture the page in Firefox without involving an AI app
Firefox includes a screenshot tool for a visible area or a full page. To start it, right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot. You can select an area, then download the image or copy it to the clipboard. The keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows and Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS. A downloaded image goes to Firefox’s configured download folder. See Firefox’s screenshot instructions for the current interface details.

To keep the image out of an AI workflow, download it rather than copying it if you want a clear file boundary, and do not use an AI app’s screenshot button, attach the file to an AI conversation, or paste it into a service that analyzes images. Capture a full page or one element with Firefox DevTools
Save a full-page screenshot

Open Firefox DevTools and select its settings.

Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.

Select the screenshot button in the DevTools toolbar to save a full-page capture to Downloads.
Capture a single page element

Open DevTools and select the Inspector.

In the HTML pane, right-click the element you want to capture.

Choose Screenshot Node.
Firefox’s Web Console also provides the :screenshot helper, with options that include a delay, device-pixel ratio, filename, and clipboard behavior. Consult Firefox’s Web Console helper documentation for syntax and options; choose a filename and output behavior deliberately if the capture contains sensitive information.
Choose a capture method that fits the page and your policy
The practical privacy boundary is whether the image or page content is transferred to a new service. The page still loads in its normal browser context, and a local screenshot file can still be exposed later through upload, sync, or sharing. For browsers other than Firefox, use the browser’s or operating system’s current built-in capture facility and confirm its save destination. Avoid installing an extension when an included tool meets your needs.

Visible area or selected region: use Firefox’s page screenshot interface when you need only what is on screen or a chosen portion.

Clipboard output: convenient for local editing, but take care not to paste into an AI-enabled app or service.

Managed work device: check your organization’s rules before capturing. A blocked shortcut does not establish that every capture method is blocked or that capturing is allowed.
Why cloud screenshot services are not the local alternative
A cloud screenshot service processes the page remotely to render it. Cloudflare’s Browser Run documentation says its /screenshot endpoint renders a webpage by processing its HTML and JavaScript, then captures the rendered page. Its documentation also describes passing cookies or credentials to capture authenticated pages. Evaluate an extension before using it on a sensitive page
An extension may offer full-page capture, editing, or export options that a built-in tool lacks, but it adds another component to assess. OpenCapture’s repository describes local capture and editing, says capture code is injected on demand into the clicked tab, and lists permissions including activeTab, scripting, downloads, and storage. Those are the project’s claims and documentation, not an independent audit or a guarantee about future versions. Review the current store listing, publisher, permissions, update history, and privacy policy before using an extension with sensitive content. Understand browser and workplace privacy limits
Mozilla says Firefox Screenshots collects interaction events such as using Copy or Save full page, but does not collect the URL or details of the captured image. That statement concerns Firefox Screenshots telemetry; it is not a claim that Firefox never sends browser data. Mozilla’s Firefox Privacy Notice separately says some named AI features, including translation and PDF image alt-text suggestions, use small models downloaded to the device and operate locally under the described conditions. That does not establish that every AI integration or screenshot workflow is local.
On managed devices, screenshot controls can vary by platform, license, and policy. Google documents screenshot-prevention settings for eligible managed Chrome environments: Chrome Enterprise screenshot controls. Microsoft says the Edge DisableScreenshots policy blocks keyboard-shortcut and extension-API capture, while Web Capture or operating-system methods may still be available: Edge DisableScreenshots policy. Follow workplace policy rather than trying alternate capture routes around a restriction.

“Take Screenshot” is missing: confirm you right-clicked an empty part of the page, or open the tool with the documented keyboard shortcut. Browser interfaces can change; consult Firefox Help if the menu differs.

The full-page button is not visible in DevTools: open DevTools settings and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Available Toolbox Buttons.

You cannot find the saved image: check Firefox’s configured download folder. The DevTools full-page action also saves to Downloads.

A work-device shortcut or extension capture is blocked: the device may be managed. Check with your administrator and follow policy; do not assume another method is permitted.

You are about to upload, paste, or share the file: pause and verify the receiving app and destination. Local capture alone does not control subsequent handling.

Does taking a screenshot locally mean the page was never sent anywhere?
No. It means the capture step need not send the image to an AI service. The site still loads in your browser, and the file may be transferred later if you upload, sync, paste, or share it.
Can I use a remote screenshot API for an authenticated page?
Only if the service’s remote processing of the page and any credentials is acceptable under your privacy requirements and approved by your organization. For content that must stay on your device, use a local browser or operating-system capture.
