1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSet Playwright’s browser context to timezoneId: 'Asia/Kolkata' before navigating to the page, then capture the viewport, full page, or a chosen element. Set locale: 'en-IN' separately if you also want India-oriented language and formatting. These settings change the browser context, not automatically the timezone of your Node.js test runner.
Capture a screenshot using India time
Playwright lets you emulate a browser locale and timezone through its context configuration. For India, use the IANA timezone ID Asia/Kolkata. The example below creates an isolated context, sets a viewport, opens a page, and saves a PNG screenshot.

const { chromium } = require('playwright');
(async () => {
const browser = await chromium.launch();
const context = await browser.newContext({
locale: 'en-IN',
timezoneId: 'Asia/Kolkata',
viewport: { width: 1440, height: 900 }
});
const page = await context.newPage();
await page.goto('https://example.com');
await page.screenshot({ path: 'india-time.png' });
await browser.close();
})();
Install Playwright in your project if needed, then run the script with Node.js. The locale and timezoneId options serve different purposes: locale can affect navigator.language, the Accept-Language request header, and locale-sensitive formatting; timezone emulation changes the browser’s timezone behavior. Playwright’s documentation describes these settings and their use in contexts and test configuration: Playwright locale and timezone emulation.

Choose what part of the page to capture
Use the capture method that matches the visual comparison you need. Playwright’s screenshot guide covers these capture options: Playwright screenshots.
#1 Best Overall
- 14" diagonal, 1366x768 resolution, HD BrightView LED, Glossy NON-TOUCH Display
- Viewport:
await page.screenshot({ path: 'india-time.png' });captures the currently visible browser area. - Full page:
await page.screenshot({ path: 'india-time-full.png', fullPage: true });captures the page’s scrollable content as one tall image. - One element:
await page.locator('main').screenshot({ path: 'main.png' });captures the element matched by the locator.
For consistent comparisons, keep the viewport and capture scope the same between runs. A full-page image and a viewport image are not interchangeable: the former includes content beyond the visible screen.
Keep browser time and runner time distinct
timezoneId applies to the browser context. It does not set the timezone of the Node.js process or another test runner. If your script calculates a date before sending it to the page, that calculation may still follow the runner machine’s timezone. Playwright notes that TZ can set the test runner timezone when required; configure it separately from the browser context and verify which side performs the date calculation.
When the page itself computes or formats a date in the browser, verify the result in the page. When the test script computes a value and supplies it to the page, check the runner’s timezone as well. This distinction prevents a screenshot from appearing to ignore the browser emulation when the displayed value was actually produced elsewhere.
Use Chrome DevTools for interactive inspection
If you want to inspect a page manually rather than run a repeatable script, Chrome offers timezone override mechanisms. The Chrome DevTools Protocol method Emulation.setTimezoneOverride overrides the host timezone for the page, and DevTools’ Sensors location presets can include timezone ID and locale alongside coordinates. See the Chrome DevTools Protocol Emulation documentation and Chrome DevTools location settings. The documented material establishes these controls, but does not provide an India-specific click-by-click recipe.

- 256 GB SSD of storage.
- Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
Playwright is better suited to repeatable captures because the timezone, locale, viewport, and screenshot scope can be declared in code. DevTools is convenient for an interactive check. These are different workflows, not evidence that one produces more accurate rendering in every situation.
Make screenshot comparisons repeatable
Timezone is only one variable in a visual comparison. Playwright cautions that screenshots can vary with the host operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode. For stable comparisons, use the same environment as the baseline as well as the same viewport and capture method. See Playwright visual comparisons.
- Keep the browser version and execution mode consistent where visual-diff stability matters.
- Keep the viewport dimensions fixed.
- Use the same scope each time: viewport, full page, or a particular element.
- Check that the relevant visible date is generated by the browser context rather than by code running in the host environment.
Troubleshoot unexpected times or screenshots
The page still shows the machine’s timezone
Confirm that timezoneId: 'Asia/Kolkata' is set on the context used to create the page, before navigation. If the value is calculated in the test runner and passed into the page, configure or account for the runner timezone separately.

Timezone and locale are independent. Add locale: 'en-IN' if locale-sensitive language or formatting should also change; changing locale alone does not set the browser timezone.

The screenshot omits content lower on the page
A normal page.screenshot() captures the viewport. Set fullPage: true for the scrollable page or take a locator screenshot for a specific component.
Two screenshots differ despite matching timezone settings
Check whether the browser version, host environment, viewport, capture scope, or headless mode differs from the baseline. These environmental factors can change visual output even when timezone emulation is configured consistently.

Frequently Asked Questions
What timezone ID should I use for India in Playwright?
Use Asia/Kolkata for the browser context’s timezoneId.
Does setting the browser timezone also set the Node.js timezone?
No. Browser-context timezone emulation and the test runner’s timezone are separate settings.
