Scheduling alone does not make a playlist run live: an encoder must keep sending the feed. For a 24-hour broadcast, also plan separately for replay, because YouTube does not promise that one continuous stream will be archived as one complete video.
Before you schedule: confirm your channel and content are ready

YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube Help’s encoder instructions. Check eligibility before you announce a start time.

Clear the rights to everything in the feed
You are responsible for having permission to broadcast the sound recordings, music, visuals, and any other material in the stream. “Royalty-free,” purchased, or self-created audio is not automatically cleared for every platform use: check the specific license for continuous livestreaming and rebroadcast, including any attribution, territory, or duration limits.

Prepare a continuous feed
A public YouTube playlist is not itself a live stream. An encoder must send a live audiovisual signal to YouTube. Prepare the sleep sounds and any accompanying visuals in the software, hardware, or cloud encoder you choose. If that encoder can assemble or loop multiple files, test the sequence and transitions beforehand; YouTube’s instructions do not establish a universal playlist-loop feature.

Choose how to encode the stream
YouTube supports software encoders running on computers, standalone hardware encoders, and listed services and devices. Choose based on who will keep the feed running and handle power, network interruptions, restarts, stream-key security, and monitoring. YouTube’s verified-encoder list is a starting point, not a guarantee that every listed option can loop prerecorded media continuously or recover from failures.
- Computer software: The computer and its network connection must stay available while the encoder sends the feed. Plan how you will detect and recover from a crash, power loss, or internet outage.
- Hardware encoder: Check that the model and its playback source support your intended prerecorded sequence and the YouTube ingest method you plan to use. You remain responsible for power, connectivity, and monitoring.
- Cloud encoder: The feed runs remotely rather than depending on a home computer staying on. Confirm that the service supports your intended continuous prerecorded YouTube feed, and understand its recovery and monitoring arrangements before relying on it.
The cited YouTube guidance does not establish current provider-specific continuous-playback guarantees or costs, so compare those details directly with the encoder provider.

Schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- Confirm live-stream eligibility. Enable live streaming early enough to allow for first-time activation, which YouTube says may take up to 24 hours.
- Open the scheduling workflow. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule stream.
- Create or reuse event settings. Choose a new event or reuse settings, then enter the title, description, thumbnail, audience selection, privacy, and other applicable details. YouTube notes that privacy defaults can differ by age; set the audience and visibility that fit your channel and broadcast.
- Save and share the scheduled watch page if useful. A scheduled event can be shared ahead of time. Eligible viewers may see a Notify me option.
- Choose visibility deliberately. Public is suitable when you want the event discoverable, unlisted when access should be through its link, and private when access should be restricted. Verify the selected setting before sharing.

Connect the encoder and start the feed
- Copy the YouTube stream URL and key. Find them in the event’s Live Control Room settings. If the encoder offers a YouTube preset, select it; otherwise, enter the stream URL in its server or ingest field and the key in its stream-key field.
- Keep the key private. YouTube Help describes stream keys as “your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not share or publish it. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace the saved key in the encoder before broadcasting.
- Configure continuous playback. Tell the encoder to send the intended sleep-sounds media continuously. Check the selected input, sequence, and audio output rather than assuming that creating the YouTube event will start playback.
- Start early and inspect the preview. YouTube recommends setting up encoders at least two hours before an event and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before it. Confirm that video and audio appear in the Live Control Room preview, test the watch page and mobile playback, and listen for missing or unstable audio.
- Go live when ready. Once the preview and event details are correct, select Go live in Live Control Room when the scheduled event is ready to begin.
- Monitor during the broadcast. Watch the encoder and stream quality, and have a plan for connection, power, or encoder failure. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring; it does not guarantee that an unattended setup will stay online.

Plan for the 12-hour archive and DVR limits
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its DVR guidance says rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. The cited guidance does not promise a complete archive of a single 24/7 broadcast, so do not advertise the whole day as a guaranteed replay. If you need complete on-demand episodes, plan and verify a separate recording and publishing workflow rather than relying on the live stream’s archive.

Troubleshoot common scheduling and playback problems
- Live streaming is not available yet: Check channel verification and whether the channel has a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
- The scheduled watch page exists, but nothing is playing: Scheduling creates the event, not the feed. Start the encoder, confirm it is sending the intended media, and check the Live Control Room preview.
- The encoder cannot connect: Recheck the event’s stream URL and key, confirm the encoder is using its YouTube preset or the correct server and key fields, and reset the key if it was exposed. Update the encoder with the replacement key.
- There is no sound or playback is unstable: Check the encoder’s media input and audio output, listen to the Live Control Room preview, and test playback on the watch page and a mobile device before the event.
- The feed stops after an outage or restart: YouTube’s setup guidance does not guarantee unattended recovery. Follow your encoder’s restart procedure and verify that the preview returns; keep a monitoring and recovery plan appropriate to your chosen setup.
- The replay is incomplete or DVR rewind is unavailable: This can occur with streams longer than 12 hours. Use a separately verified recording and publishing workflow if complete episodes matter.
- Music or visuals trigger a rights concern: Review the actual license for each recording and visual, including continuous livestreaming and rebroadcast permissions. Do not assume a purchase or a “royalty-free” label settles the platform-use question.
