- Open the relevant page or reproduce the problem. Do not repeat an action if it could submit a return, payment, or other transaction unintentionally.
- Make the important details readable. Widen the browser window if labels or the error message are clipped. Keep the relevant page context visible without including unrelated tabs or personal information.
- Choose a capture that fits the evidence. For a short error, a screenshot of the visible screen is usually easiest to read. If useful context spans a long page, take a few overlapping captures or use a full-page capture, then check that its text remains legible at normal reading size.
- Review the exported image before sharing it. Crop irrelevant surroundings. Redact passwords, OTPs, credentials, personal or financial details, and other taxpayers’ information when those details are not needed to explain the issue. Make sure any covering is opaque and permanent in the exported copy; do not rely on a reversible blur or an editable overlay.
- Write a concise explanation. State the action that led to the screen, the date and time, the relevant filing period or reference number if safe and useful, and the result you expected. Never include a password or OTP in the complaint.
- Submit through the current GSTN form. Follow the form’s live instructions for attachments and retain the submitted copy and complaint or ticket reference securely.

Where to upload the screenshot
- Open the GSTN Self Service Portal and look for the relevant help topic or FAQ.
- If the FAQ does not resolve the problem, proceed to the complaint route shown by the portal or open the Report an Issue page.
- Complete the current form, explain the issue in words, and add the reviewed screenshot using the attachment instructions displayed there.
- Save the complaint reference and a secure copy of what you submitted for follow-up.
The official pages confirm screenshot upload but do not establish a universal current attachment format or size limit. The live complaint form is the authority for those details at submission time.
Use official manuals for task-specific steps
If your question concerns a particular filing or portal workflow rather than an error complaint, consult the corresponding GSTN help material. The GSTN Welcome Kit for New Taxpayers points to manuals and FAQs with screenshots covering areas such as payments, return filing, refunds, appeals, offline tools, ITC forms, and ledgers.
