To capture a website at 100% browser zoom, first confirm the page’s zoom setting is 100%, then choose a visible-viewport or full-page capture. In Chrome, use the toolbar’s Zoom control and DevTools screenshot commands; in Firefox, use its built-in screenshot options or DevTools. These steps concern browser page zoom—not operating-system display scaling, device pixel ratio, or zoom inside the website itself.
1. Confirm the browser page zoom is 100%
Browser page zoom changes how large a page’s content is rendered. A site can have its own saved zoom level, so checking only the browser’s general default may not be enough.

Chrome
- Open the page you need to document.
- Open Chrome’s menu or toolbar Zoom control and check the displayed percentage. Set it to 100% if necessary.
- If the page still appears to use a different zoom, check for a site-specific setting under Settings → Privacy and security → Site Settings → Additional content settings → Zoom levels. Remove or correct an override for the site if appropriate.
- To inspect the browser-wide default, go to Settings → Appearance → Page zoom.
Chrome documents both the global page-zoom default and site-specific zoom levels in its zoom settings help. Menu wording can vary with Chrome releases and platform.
Firefox
Check the page’s zoom control in the browser UI and set it to 100% before capturing. The cited Firefox screenshot instructions describe capture choices, but do not specify the zoom-control steps; exact menu labels may vary by release and platform.

2. Choose the screenshot scope
- Visible viewport: captures the portion currently on screen. Use it to document one visible state or interaction.
- Full page: captures content beyond the current viewport. Use it when the documentation needs the whole document.
- One element: captures a selected component in Firefox DevTools when the evidence is about a specific node rather than the whole page.
Choose the scope before capturing so the image matches what the documentation is meant to show. The official browser instructions establish these capture modes, but do not establish comparative resolution, color fidelity, speed, or pixel equivalence across browsers.
3. Capture in Chrome
- Open the page and confirm its page zoom is 100%.
- Open Chrome DevTools. If needed, open the DevTools command menu or More options menu.
- Choose Capture screenshot for the current viewport, or Capture a full size screenshot for the whole page, including content outside the viewport.
- Save the image and inspect the crop and visible page state before adding it to documentation.
Google’s Chrome DevTools device mode documentation describes these commands: “To capture a screenshot of what you currently see in the viewport, click More options > Capture screenshot.” For a full page, it says to select “Capture a full size screenshot” from the same menu.

4. Capture in Firefox
Visible page or full page
- Open the page at 100% browser page zoom.
- Use Firefox’s built-in page screenshot feature.
- Choose Save visible for the current view or Save full page for the entire document.
- Save and inspect the result.

5. Check the saved image
Before publishing or attaching the image, verify that it shows the intended page state, the correct viewport or full-page scope, and legible content. If the image is not what you expected, return to the page, recheck the browser zoom and site-specific zoom, and capture again using the appropriate scope. No particular pixel density or identical rendering across browsers is guaranteed by the cited instructions.

The page still looks zoomed in or out
Check the browser’s current page-zoom percentage, then look for a saved site-specific zoom override in Chrome. Do not confuse page zoom with operating-system display scaling or the site’s own zoom controls.

The screenshot cuts off content
You may have captured only the viewport. In Chrome choose Capture a full size screenshot; in Firefox choose Save full page. If only a single component is needed, use Firefox’s node screenshot option.
The screenshot shows the wrong page state
Return to the page, reproduce the state that the documentation should show, and capture again. Inspect the saved file before using it; a screenshot records the page state at capture time.
A menu label or location differs
Browser interfaces can change across versions and operating systems. Use the browser’s official help pages linked above to find the equivalent screenshot or zoom control for your installation.
