Use viewport captures for what is visible, full-page captures for content below the fold, or a locator for one element.
How the multi-tab model works
In Playwright, a Page represents a browser tab or popup, and screenshots are taken from a Page. A BrowserContext can contain multiple pages (tabs). Keep each page handle alongside its URL or task label; then navigate, interact with, and capture each handle independently. See the Playwright Pages guide and Page API reference.

For an agent, this creates a useful division of work: use browser snapshots or accessibility structure to find and operate controls, and use screenshots to inspect the rendered appearance. Choose the right browser state boundary
Use a dedicated context for isolated automation
Create a fresh context when the task does not require an existing signed-in session. Pages in that context share its browser settings and emulation, while remaining separate page handles. This keeps the job’s state boundary clearer than attaching to a personal profile.

Connect to an existing profile only when needed
If a task depends on an already-authenticated personal browser session, connecting an agent to that profile may expose open tabs, cookies, storage state, and information available through JavaScript APIs. Chrome’s documentation describes its local DevTools-for-agents server as not sending browser data, session tokens, or telemetry to Google; that vendor description applies to that implementation and should not be generalized to other tools. Review the Chrome for Developers auto-connect documentation, and grant profile access only when the workflow requires it.
Runnable Playwright example: capture several URLs separately
This Node.js example opens two pages in one context and writes one full-page PNG per URL. Install Playwright and its Chromium browser in your project before running it. The example uses page.goto() and page.screenshot(); adapt the URLs and readiness checks to the sites you capture.

})();The filenames include an index and hostname so captures do not overwrite one another. domcontentloaded is only an initial navigation milestone, not proof that an application has finished rendering or loading its data. If a page updates asynchronously, wait for the specific element or application state that defines readiness for that site. There is no single wait condition that is correct for every page.

Capture viewport, full page, or one element

The Page API also documents screenshot options such as masking selected locators. Playwright MCP documents PNG, JPEG, and WebP output, device-pixel or CSS-pixel scale, and full-page capture. Check the MCP screenshot documentation for the tool interface you use; option names can vary between the direct Page API and an agent-facing tool.
Operate and capture tabs through an agent tool
If you use Playwright’s agent CLI or MCP rather than writing the Page API loop yourself, the underlying principle is unchanged: list or create tabs, select the intended tab for interactions, and capture that page. The Playwright Command Reference documents agent CLI tab operations and screenshot capabilities. With MCP, use snapshots to obtain references for actions and screenshots to assess visual results. Keep a page label or URL attached to each result so the agent can tell which tab produced it.

Troubleshooting multi-tab captures
A screenshot shows the wrong page
Check that the screenshot call uses the intended Page handle, not a variable that was overwritten while opening another tab. Keep the URL and task label next to the handle, and log them with the output filename.
The page is blank or incomplete
Navigation completion does not guarantee that client-side rendering, API data, animations, or lazy images are ready. Wait for a site-specific selector or state before capture. For long pages with lazy-loaded images, scroll through the relevant content before taking a full-page image.

Navigation times out or fails
Handle navigation errors per page so one failed URL does not silently produce a misleading screenshot. Record the URL and error, then decide whether to skip that page, retry under a suitable timeout, or capture an error state explicitly. Avoid treating a fixed delay as proof of readiness.
Several screenshots overwrite one another
Give each output a unique name using an index, hostname, or stable task label, as in the example. If filenames are generated from user-provided labels, sanitize them before using them as paths.
An agent clicks the wrong control
Use a browser snapshot or accessibility structure to identify the target and obtain its interaction reference; a screenshot is for visual review, not a reliable control locator. After interaction, take a fresh screenshot to verify the resulting appearance.

Reliability, performance, and cost considerations
- Bound concurrency: opening and navigating many pages at once may increase memory use and load on the target sites. Start with modest concurrency and tune it for the workload and runtime.
- Separate failures: a batch should preserve which pages succeeded and which failed, rather than treating all captures as one undifferentiated result.
- Make readiness explicit: site-specific conditions are more reliable than assuming a universal wait duration, especially for dynamic pages.
- Track provenance: associate every image with its page label, URL, and capture state. A screenshot is evidence of a visual moment, not proof that the intended tab or application state was captured.
- Choose API versus browser automation by need: Playwright gives you control over browser tabs, interaction, and state. A screenshot API can avoid browser setup when the input is simply a URL; ScreenshotNeo says only clean screenshots are billed, with verdict and billing headers on each response.
