Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo capture content rendered by JavaScript, request a screenshot only after the page has had time to produce the content you need. With ScreenshotAPI.net, send a GET request to https://screenshot-api.net/v1/screenshot, authenticate with a Bearer token, and choose a readiness signal and capture scope that fit the page. A delay is the documented option in the reviewed /v1/screenshot reference; selector and network-idle waits are described on the feature page, so verify support and parameter names for the endpoint version you use.
Make a JavaScript-rendered screenshot with a minimal request
Keep the API key in an environment variable and let cURL encode the query parameters. The response body is the image, so -o saves it as a file:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
export SCREENSHOT_API_KEY='YOUR_API_KEY'
curl -G 'https://screenshot-api.net/v1/screenshot'
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SCREENSHOT_API_KEY"
--data-urlencode 'url=https://example.com'
--data-urlencode 'delay=2000'
--data-urlencode 'full_page=true'
-o screenshot.png
The endpoint requires a target url. The example requests a two-second delay and a full-page image; it illustrates the documented request shape and is not a tested capture. The API reference documents PNG as the default format, so no format parameter is needed for this filename. See the ScreenshotAPI.net API reference for the current endpoint parameters and response details.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For a normal application request, use Authorization: Bearer. The documentation also accepts a ?key= query parameter for embedding a capture as an image, but a key in a URL can be exposed through page source or server logs. Do not use that form for production secrets.

Choose when the screenshot is taken
A page’s initial navigation completing does not necessarily mean that its JavaScript-driven content is ready. A widget might render after an API call, an element might appear only after client-side work, or requests might arrive in several waves. Match the wait condition to the signal that actually means “ready” for your page.
| Readiness strategy | Waits for | Best fit and trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Timed delay | A fixed elapsed time after load, specified as delay. |
Simple when the page is predictable. It guesses: a short delay can capture too early, while a long one adds unnecessary waiting. The API reference documents 0–10,000 milliseconds. |
| Selector wait | A chosen CSS selector to become available. | Useful when a specific element reliably signals that the desired content has rendered. The feature page describes this capability; confirm the exact parameter and support for the endpoint/version you call. |
| Network idle | Network activity to become idle. | Can suit pages whose content is delivered through asynchronous requests. Pages with continuing background requests may make this a poor readiness signal. The feature page describes this option; confirm endpoint-specific support and naming. |
The reviewed /v1/screenshot API reference explicitly documents delay. The feature page describes selector and network-idle waits, while separately surfaced v3 documentation belongs to another endpoint version. Do not copy parameter names across versions: use only the readiness parameters documented for the precise endpoint you call.

Set a delay when elapsed time is the signal
For an asynchronous widget that usually renders shortly after navigation, try a modest delay and inspect the result. Increase it only if the capture demonstrates that the content is late; do not assume that a large delay is inherently more reliable. Because the documented maximum is 10,000 milliseconds, a page that needs longer may require another supported readiness strategy or a different workflow.

Wait for a meaningful element when possible
If a known component appears only when its data is ready, waiting for that component is more directly tied to the result than guessing a duration. Choose a selector that represents usable content, not merely a container that exists before its contents arrive. Since selector waits are described on the feature page rather than explicitly in the reviewed endpoint reference, check the reference for your endpoint before adding one.

Use network idle only when it represents readiness
Network quiet can be a useful signal when the page fills in through a sequence of requests. It can be misleading if the site polls continuously, opens long-lived connections, or finishes its important rendering while unrelated requests continue. Check endpoint documentation for the supported option and verify the capture rather than treating network idle as a universal guarantee.
Choose what part of the page to capture
| Capture scope | How to request it | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Viewport | Leave full_page false (the documented default). |
You need the visible viewport, such as a consistent above-the-fold check. Default dimensions are 1280 by 800 CSS pixels. |
| Full page | Set full_page=true. |
You need the document beyond the initial viewport. The API reference caps full-page height at 4320 pixels. |
| One element | Use the documented selector-capture option for your endpoint. | You need a single chart, card, or component rather than the whole document. The element is scrolled into view; the API returns an error if no element matches. |
Full-page output can be substantially taller than a viewport image, and the documented height cap means very long documents may not fit into one capture. If the page is too tall or only one component matters, use an element capture if supported by your endpoint. For full-page captures, the feature page says its process scrolls to activate off-screen lazy-loaded content; treat this as a provider-described behavior, not a guarantee for every site, and inspect the resulting image.

Set dimensions only when the default is not right
The documented defaults are width 1280 CSS pixels, height 800 CSS pixels, scale 1, and timeout 25 seconds. The reference lists maximum width 3840, maximum height 4320, scale up to 3, and timeout from 1 to 30 seconds. Keep the defaults unless the target layout or output needs a different viewport or pixel density. For responsive pages, remember that changing viewport width can change the page layout, not merely the image dimensions.
Check page status and access before trusting the image
A valid image file can still show a login screen, an error page, or an incomplete state. ScreenshotAPI.net documents X-Page-Status as the final document status after redirects. Check it alongside the image when the result is unexpected: a 401 or 403 can mean the capture shows an authentication or access-denied page rather than the intended content.

Troubleshoot blank or incomplete captures
- The image is blank or the component is missing: Confirm the target URL and inspect
X-Page-Statusfirst. Then determine whether the content appears after asynchronous work and select a matching readiness condition. A delay is documented for this endpoint; check endpoint-specific documentation before using selector or network-idle parameters. - The capture shows a login or error page: Check the final status after redirects. If the page requires authentication, use the documented cookies, target-host headers, or HTTP basic authentication, and ensure the credentials are valid for the target.
- The full-page image omits lower content: Account for the 4320-pixel full-page height cap. Consider a specific element capture or a different viewport when the entire document cannot fit. Lazy-load activation is described as a feature, but inspect the output because site behavior can vary.
- The response is not the image you expect: The endpoint returns image bytes with a content type matching the selected format. Check the response status and headers as well as the saved file; a file extension alone does not establish that the intended page was captured.
- The request fails after increasing the wait: The documented timeout range is 1–30 seconds and the default is 25 seconds. A longer wait is not available beyond that documented maximum; choose a better readiness signal or investigate whether the target itself is slow or inaccessible.

ScreenshotNeo offers a screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return an image or PDF; its cleanup options accept cookie and consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Each cleanup step can be turned off. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with the outcome reported in response headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents using Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client.
For example, this cURL request captures a page as WebP:

Frequently Asked Questions
Does ScreenshotAPI.net return a screenshot file or a link?
The documented screenshot endpoint returns image bytes in the response body, with a content type matching the selected image format.
Can a selector wait guarantee that every JavaScript widget is ready?
No. It is useful only when the chosen selector reliably signals that the needed content has rendered, and support and parameter names should be checked for the specific endpoint version.
