With Playwright, a locator-specific wait is more dependable than assuming navigation or network activity means the price is ready.
Why the price may be missing from a screenshot
Many product pages add or update prices after the initial HTML arrives. A tool that only downloads that HTML may capture the page before the price is rendered. Browser automation such as Playwright runs the page in a browser context, allowing the page’s JavaScript to execute before capture.
The price selector and readiness condition depend on the particular site. There is no universal CSS selector that identifies every product price, so inspect the target page and choose its actual price element.
Capture a JavaScript-loaded price with Playwright
1. Install Playwright
For a minimal Node.js project, install Playwright and its browser:

Inspect the product page in your browser’s developer tools and identify a selector for the price element. Replace [REPLACE_WITH_SITE_SPECIFIC_PRICE_SELECTOR] below with that selector. The example deliberately does not claim that one selector works across retailers.
3. Navigate, wait for the price, and save the screenshot
Save this as capture-price.js. Replace the URL and selector, then run node capture-price.js.

})();The non-empty-text check is useful when a price element exists in the DOM before its value is filled in. If the price appears only after another interaction, such as selecting a size or color, perform that interaction before waiting for the price.
Choose the screenshot area
- Viewport: Capture only what is currently visible with

await price.screenshot({ path: 'price.png' }). - Full page: Use
fullPage: trueto capture the full scrollable page, including content below the viewport. If relevant content is lazy-loaded, scroll it into view before capture and make sure the price remains visible.
Playwright supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP screenshot types. PNG is a reasonable default when clear text matters; JPEG or WebP may suit sharing or storage needs. See the Playwright Screenshots guide and Page API for the documented capture options.

Wait for the application condition, not just navigation
A completed navigation does not necessarily mean a product price has rendered. Playwright’s networkidle state means there have been no network connections for at least 500 ms, but the Page API discourages using it as a general readiness test. A page can still update after that point, and some pages keep network connections active. Wait for a meaningful condition on the actual price element instead. The Playwright Page API recommends relying on web assertions to assess readiness.
Use domcontentloaded or another appropriate navigation state to manage navigation, then separately wait for the price locator and its populated text. Avoid adding an arbitrary delay as a substitute for checking that the price is present.

Common problems and fixes
- The locator times out: Recheck the selector against the live page and confirm the price is not inside an iframe. If the site requires a variant selection, click or select it before waiting.
- The element is visible but the screenshot has no price: The element may be a placeholder whose text is filled later. Keep the non-empty-text condition, and verify it is checking the correct element.
- The script captures a different price than expected: Product pages may show multiple prices, such as a sale price and an original price. Choose a selector for the specific value you need, and consider checking its text before capture.
- The price is below the fold or appears on scroll: Scroll the relevant product section into view before capture. For full-page screenshots with lazy-loaded content, scroll the page as needed so that content is loaded.
- The navigation wait hangs or behaves inconsistently: Do not assume
networkidlewill solve application readiness. Use an appropriate navigation state and wait independently for the price. - The screenshot file is missing after an error: Check the terminal output for the failed navigation or locator wait, confirm the output directory is writable, and ensure the browser is installed with
npx playwright install chromium.
Manual capture or automation?
For a one-off image, opening the page in a regular browser and waiting until the price is visibly populated may be simplest. For repeated captures, Playwright makes the navigation, readiness check, and screenshot scope repeatable. It also lets you capture a viewport, a specific element, or the full page. A script still needs a valid, site-specific selector and may need to reproduce interactions required to reveal the price.
