For a one-off screenshot, use Chrome DevTools Device Mode: set a responsive viewport or choose a device preset, then capture either the visible screen or the full page. For repeatable captures across several sizes, use Playwright device emulation. Both methods simulate mobile conditions on a desktop; check the page on a real phone when hardware-specific behavior matters.
Capture a product page with Chrome DevTools
- Open the product page in Chrome, then open DevTools. You can use the DevTools menu or the browser’s developer-tools keyboard shortcut.
- Click the Device Toolbar button in DevTools to enable Device Mode.
- Choose Responsive and enter the viewport width and height, or select a device preset. A preset also configures other device-emulation properties; custom responsive dimensions let you set the viewport directly. See Chrome’s Device Mode documentation for the current controls.
- Set the orientation you want to document. For a portrait capture, use portrait dimensions; for landscape, reverse the relationship between width and height as appropriate for your test.
- Open the Device Toolbar’s More options menu and choose Capture screenshot for the visible viewport, or Capture a full size screenshot for the page beyond the visible area.
These capture choices produce different images: a viewport screenshot records what fits on screen, while a full-size screenshot includes content below or outside the viewport. Use the former to assess the initial mobile view and the latter when you need the whole product page in one image.

Repeat captures at several sizes with Playwright
For a comparison set or recurring review, a script is easier to rerun consistently than manually changing DevTools settings. Playwright provides device emulation and screenshot capture. Device descriptors can configure properties such as user agent, screen size, viewport, and touch; you can override viewport dimensions for a particular run. See the Playwright emulation documentation and screenshot documentation.
Install Playwright for Node.js with npm init playwright@latest if you are starting a project, or add it to an existing project with npm install -D @playwright/test. The following standalone script launches Chromium, loads a product page, and writes viewport and full-page screenshots at two explicit sizes:

})();Replace the example URL with the product page you are capturing. The dimensions above are sample inputs, not a universal device list or recommended standard. Add the viewport sizes that match your project’s needs and label them clearly. Playwright screenshots can also target a selected element rather than the viewport or whole page; consult its screenshot documentation for the element-capture API.
Choosing a device descriptor or custom viewport
Use a device descriptor when you want a preset that includes more than viewport dimensions, such as user-agent or touch settings. Use an explicit viewport when the comparison is about exact width and height, or when you need dimensions that are not represented by a preset. Record any descriptor and any overrides so another run can reproduce the same setup.

Keep comparisons reproducible
For each image, record the viewport width and height, portrait or landscape orientation, device preset or custom dimensions, and capture scope (viewport, element, or full page). For scripted captures, also record the browser and emulation settings. Product pages can show different content depending on page state, so decide how to handle consent prompts, personalization, stock or variant selection, and image loading for your own comparison; the browser capture guidance does not prescribe one standard state.

Chrome cautions that Device Mode does not run the page on a phone: “You simulate the mobile user experience from your laptop or desktop.” Emulation is useful for checking responsive layout, but it is not equivalent to actual hardware. Chrome identifies mobile CPU architecture as one limitation and advises using a real mobile device when in doubt. See Chrome’s guidance.

Validate on an actual phone when the question depends on hardware or mobile-browser behavior that desktop emulation may not reproduce. There is no universally correct set of viewport sizes established by these tools; choose sizes for the audience and layout conditions you need to examine, then state them with the screenshots.

Does a full-page screenshot represent the initial mobile screen?
No. A full-page capture includes content beyond the visible viewport; use a viewport screenshot when you need to show only what fits on screen.

No universal list is established by the cited Chrome and Playwright documentation. Choose sizes relevant to your product and record them with the captures.
