To capture a website at mobile width with Browserless, send a JSON POST request to its /screenshot REST endpoint, authenticate with your API token, and set the viewport width and height in CSS pixels before taking the screenshot. Use fullPage for the entire document, or a clip or selector when the client needs only a particular region. A narrow viewport sets responsive layout width; add mobile emulation properties such as isMobile and hasTouch only when you need those behaviors as well.
This workflow produces a browser-rendered, emulated view—not proof of how the site looks on a physical handset in India. The cited Browserless documentation describes the API mechanics, but does not establish India-specific pricing, data residency, legal obligations, or service availability.

Make a mobile-width capture with Browserless
Browserless documents a REST screenshot request as POST /screenshot: send JSON and receive an image response. Get an API token from your Browserless account dashboard, keep it secret, and pass it using the documented query parameter. The endpoint can return formats such as PNG, JPEG, or WebP; see the Browserless Screenshot API for the request schema and current parameters.
The exact viewport dimensions depend on the client’s request. Choose a CSS width that answers their question—such as whether a layout adapts to a narrow screen—rather than assuming that one width represents every phone. Set the viewport before capture: a responsive page renders according to the width in effect at render time. Browserless makes this point in its BAP screenshots and PDFs guidance.

Example request shape
Use the parameter names and authentication format in Browserless’ current endpoint documentation. This illustrative cURL request shows the method and JSON body; replace the placeholder token and URL, and confirm the exact body fields against the endpoint schema before running it:
curl -X POST "https://production-sfo.browserless.io/screenshot?token=YOUR_API_TOKEN"
-H "Content-Type: application/json"
--output mobile.png
--data '{
"url": "https://example.com",
"options": {
"type": "png",
"fullPage": false
},
"viewport": {
"width": 390,
"height": 844,
"deviceScaleFactor": 1
}
}'
The endpoint’s host and supported request fields can depend on the Browserless product or account configuration. The documentation identifies the endpoint as POST /screenshot; do not treat the illustrative host or body shape as a guarantee for every deployment. Consult the REST APIs introduction and the Screenshot API reference for your account’s current URL and schema.
Choose viewport size, mobile emulation, and capture boundary
Viewport width controls responsive layout
Browserless documents viewport width and height in CSS pixels. Setting a mobile-width viewport asks the browser to lay out the page at that CSS width. A deviceScaleFactor can change the output raster pixel dimensions without changing the CSS layout width, so distinguish the viewport dimensions from the saved image’s pixel dimensions when reporting results. The Browserless scrape API reference lists viewport fields including width, height, deviceScaleFactor, isMobile, isLandscape, and hasTouch.

When to use mobile properties
For a responsive-layout check, viewport width may be all you need. Add mobile properties when the client specifically wants mobile browser behavior, such as touch support or a mobile identity. Browserless also documents Android OS emulation; that is distinct from merely setting a narrow viewport. See Browserless OS emulation for the documented scope.
- Viewport only: useful for checking how a responsive design lays out at the requested CSS width.
- Viewport plus mobile settings: use when mobile-specific behavior or identity matters to the capture.
- Physical-device validation: not established by an emulated browser screenshot; use an actual handset test when the client requires evidence from a real device.
Choose the capture area
| Capture choice | Use it for | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Viewport screenshot | The first visible screen at the selected viewport dimensions | The initial viewport, not the full document |
fullPage |
A long page the client wants in one image | The document’s full height, subject to page rendering and loading |
clip |
A fixed rectangular section | The specified region of the rendered page |
| Selector capture | A particular element, such as a hero or pricing block | The element’s bounding box; Browserless says the selector option waits for the element and crops to its bounds |
Browserless documents screenshot options in its screenshot mutation reference. Use the field names and nesting required by the endpoint you are calling; REST, BrowserQL, and other Browserless interfaces do not necessarily share an identical request schema.
Wait for the page state the client needs
A capture made too soon can omit content that loads after the initial document. Browserless documents waits for events, functions, selectors, or timeouts. Match the wait to what must appear: for example, wait for a particular content selector rather than adding an arbitrary delay when the selector is available.

Lazy-loaded images may not exist in the page until a scroll triggers them. Browserless’ screenshot API documentation describes scrolling the page to trigger lazy loading and recommends combining scrollPage: true with full-page capture when the goal is a complete long page. A full-page setting alone does not guarantee that every deferred element has loaded.
- Wait for a selector when a specific element is the success condition.
- Use an event or timeout only when it matches the target page’s loading behavior.
- For long pages with lazy content, use the documented scroll option with full-page capture and inspect the output for gaps.
Available wait and scrolling fields depend on the endpoint. Check the exact request format in the Screenshot API documentation and the screenshot mutation reference.
Inspect the image before sending it to a client
An HTTP success or image file does not prove that the intended page rendered faithfully. Browserless lists blank or white captures, CAPTCHA pages, 403 or access-denied screens, and missing elements among signs that a site may block automation. Open the actual image and verify the URL’s expected content, viewport behavior, and capture boundaries before describing it as a successful result.

Browserless documents an /unblock route, but its existence is not a guarantee that it will work on a particular site. If the captured page presents a challenge or denial, report what appeared rather than presenting it as the client’s normal mobile experience. The Browserless Screenshot API documentation discusses these failure signs.
Indian-client considerations
The Browserless references cited here explain screenshot requests and browser configuration; they do not establish India-specific service availability, pricing, data residency, or legal compliance. If any of those affect a client engagement, confirm them directly for the account, deployment, and applicable use case rather than inferring them from a screenshot workflow.

Likewise, label an emulated capture accurately. A screenshot taken with a mobile-width viewport or Android emulation is not a test on a real Indian handset, network, carrier, or location unless those conditions were separately used and verified.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its API returns a screenshot or PDF from one GET request; cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can be removed before capture, with each cleanup step switchable. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides screenshot and PDF tools for AI agents.
For a mobile-width capture, pass the viewport settings in the query parameters supported by the ScreenshotNeo API. The following is the documented cURL pattern, adapted to a client URL; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for available parameters and options.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a mobile-width Browserless screenshot prove how a page looks on an Indian phone?
No. A viewport or device-emulated capture is a browser rendering, not evidence from a physical handset or Indian mobile network.
Should I use full-page capture for every client screenshot?
No. Use it when the deliverable needs the whole document; use a viewport capture for the initial screen and a clip or selector for a specific region or element.
