For the current 8.3-inch iPad mini, set a portrait viewport to 744 × 1133 points or CSS pixels; in landscape, use 1133 × 744. If your tool asks for device pixels instead, the portrait display resolution is 1488 × 2266 pixels at 2×. The unit matters: entering device-pixel dimensions into a CSS-pixel viewport makes the page appear much larger than intended.
What size is an iPad mini screenshot?
Apple’s current iPad mini layout guidance lists the 8.3-inch model at 744 × 1133 points, equivalent to 1488 × 2266 pixels at 2×. Enter 744 × 1133 in tools that request screen points or CSS pixels. For landscape, swap the dimensions. Apple’s layout guidance provides the design dimensions; its technical specifications list the hardware display as 2266 × 1488 pixels at 326 ppi.

Points or CSS pixels describe the layout viewport; physical display pixels describe the screen’s denser rendered image. A capture tool may save an image at a different pixel density than the CSS viewport, so check its pixel-ratio setting and the resulting file dimensions before comparing images. These figures apply to the current 8.3-inch iPad mini, not every earlier iPad mini generation.

- In Safari settings, enable web developer features if the Develop menu is not visible.
- Open the target webpage and focus its tab.
- Choose Develop > Enter Responsive Design Mode, or press ⌃⌘R.
- Set the editable size to 744 × 1133 screen points for portrait. Rotate using the control or swap the values for landscape.
- Adjust pixel ratio if image density matters, then inspect the output dimensions before publishing or comparing the capture.
- Capture using the Mac screenshot workflow. To inspect closer to device behavior, choose Open with Simulator from Responsive Design Mode.
Safari’s presets approximate devices; they do not reproduce every browser and hardware effect, such as the address bar, keyboard, or device-specific form fields. Pixel ratio affects rendering density and can also affect which image resources or CSS resolution rules a page uses. Apple describes Simulator as a more accurate preview than presets, though a physical iPad remains the check for the actual device.

Capture at iPad mini size with Chrome DevTools
- Open the webpage in Chrome and open DevTools.
- Click Toggle device toolbar.
- In the Dimensions control, choose Responsive.
- Enter 744 for width and 1133 for height (CSS pixels); swap the values for landscape.
- Open More options and choose Capture screenshot for the visible viewport, or Capture a full size screenshot to include content below the fold.
Google cautions that Device Mode simulates a mobile experience from a desktop; the page is not running on an actual mobile device. Use it for rapid responsive-layout checks, not as proof of exact iPadOS or Safari behavior. See Chrome’s Device Mode guide.

Troubleshooting common sizing and capture problems
- The page looks zoomed in or huge: Check that you entered 744 × 1133, not the physical 1488 × 2266 pixel resolution, into a CSS-pixel or point field.
- The capture is the wrong orientation: Use 744 wide × 1133 high for portrait, and 1133 wide × 744 high for landscape.
- The screenshot contains only the top of a long page: Choose Chrome’s Capture a full size screenshot rather than the viewport-only command.
- The saved image’s pixel dimensions differ from the viewport: Check pixel ratio or scale settings and the capture tool’s output; CSS viewport size and image-file pixels are distinct.
- The page looks different on a real iPad: Desktop emulation does not run the page on iPadOS. Verify in Simulator or on hardware, particularly for Safari-specific behavior, form controls, keyboard effects, and browser chrome.
- Safari’s Develop menu is missing: Enable web developer features in Safari settings, then reopen the menu and enter Responsive Design Mode.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use 744 × 1133 for older iPad mini models?
No. Those dimensions correspond to the current 8.3-inch model; earlier 7.9-inch models use different dimensions.
Can Chrome DevTools prove how a page behaves in iPadOS Safari?
No. Device Mode is desktop emulation. Use an iPadOS Simulator or physical iPad mini when platform-specific behavior is the question.
