If Hindi text is missing, blank, or shown as boxes in a ScreenshotMachine image, first determine whether the problem is the page, font availability, or capture timing. ScreenshotMachine’s documented command-line example is a curl request to its hosted API—not evidence of a local browser renderer. Installing a Devanagari font on the computer sending that request is therefore not a documented fix for the hosted renderer.
What ScreenshotMachine’s command-line method does
ScreenshotMachine documents a hosted screenshot API accessed with HTTP GET and shows a Bash example using curl. That makes the command-line part a client for a remote service; the reviewed documentation does not establish a local ScreenshotMachine browser binary or describe how to install fonts in the hosted rendering environment. Its documented request controls include an accept-language header, capture delay, dimensions, device, output format, and cache settings. These configure the request and capture; the documentation reviewed does not show a parameter for uploading, installing, or selecting a Devanagari font. A local font installation should not be assumed to change what the remote renderer can access.

Check the page and the capture in the right order
- Inspect the webpage itself. Confirm that the Hindi text is visible in a normal browser before changing screenshot settings. If it is missing there too, investigate page content, localization, or application rendering. If the page shows Hindi but the screenshot has blanks or boxes, concentrate on font coverage and capture timing.
- Establish where the browser runs. A
curlcommand to ScreenshotMachine calls its hosted service. If you instead run browser automation on your own Linux machine or CI image, font installation must happen in that browser’s actual runtime. - Check glyph coverage and font access. The browser needs access to a font containing the specific Devanagari characters in the page. Debian Bookworm documents the
fonts-noto-corepackage as a system font package; whether it is suitable and how to install it depends on the particular Debian-based image and version. Its existence does not indicate that ScreenshotMachine uses it. See Debian’s Bookworm package page. - Wait for web fonts in a browser you control. If the page loads fonts over the web, take the screenshot after those fonts are ready. MDN documents
document.fontsas the document’sFontFaceSet, and itsreadypromise resolves after font loading and associated layout operations complete. Use its language header if the site serves localized content based on
Accept-Language; use an appropriate delay if the page needs time to render. Do not treat either setting as a font installation or a guarantee that a particular font has loaded.
Use ScreenshotMachine’s documented shell request
The official documentation’s Bash example sets a customer key, target URL, dimensions, device, format, cache limit, delay, and zoom, encodes these as request data, calls curl, and writes the response to a file. The sample below follows that documented shape. Replace the example key and URL, and adjust the capture parameters for your page; the example’s values are not mandatory settings for Hindi pages.

A language header can affect which page content the server returns; it does not choose a font. Likewise, a fixed delay waits before capture but is not equivalent to checking that a browser’s font set is ready.
If you control the browser, wait for web fonts explicitly
In browser automation that permits page evaluation, wait for the document’s fonts before capturing. For example, in a Playwright-style flow:
