For one continuous page covering the full page height, use Browserless’s /function API instead; the ordinary /pdf endpoint does not provide that layout.
What Browserless captures—and what it does not
Browserless renders a URL or raw HTML in a browser and returns a PDF copy of the displayed content. This is useful for saving an invoice shown in a web application, but PDF capture is separate from creating, registering, or validating a GST e-invoice. A visually complete PDF does not prove legal compliance or e-invoice registration.

For context, CBIC’s tax-invoice rules enumerate particulars including the supplier’s name, address and GSTIN; a consecutive serial number unique for a financial year; issue date; recipient details where applicable; HSN code or service accounting code; description; quantity and unit for goods; and total supply value. Get an API token from your Browserless account dashboard. The current REST PDF endpoint expects the token in the token query parameter. Send a JSON POST request to the /pdf endpoint, supplying url or html—not both. The response is PDF data, so write the response body to a file rather than treating it as JSON.

Endpoint details and supported PDF options are documented in the Browserless PDF API. This current REST API should be preferred over the older BaaS v1 documentation, which says that v1 is no longer actively supported.

Replace YOUR_TOKEN and the example address with your token and invoice page URL. This example assumes the page is directly accessible to the browser session Browserless creates.

Set them according to the invoice’s layout: backgrounds may contain important colors or shading, while headers and footers can add print metadata. Render raw HTML instead
When you already have the invoice markup, send it in the request’s html field instead of url. Do not include both fields. This approach renders the supplied document; it does not fetch or authenticate into the invoice application on your behalf.

Invoice applications often populate content with JavaScript after the initial page load. Printing immediately can produce a PDF with missing line items, totals, or other late-rendered content. Choose a readiness condition that matches the invoice page: ideally wait for a stable selector that appears only once the invoice is ready. Browserless’s PDF guidance recommends waiting for elements to load to avoid incomplete output; the selector and any required authentication depend on the invoice site. See Browserless PDF Generation.
Browserless documents waits and navigation-related configuration across its REST APIs. Use an explicit wait appropriate to the page rather than assuming the initial navigation means the invoice is ready. The endpoint overview is in the Browserless REST APIs documentation. After capturing, open the PDF and check that it contains the intended invoice data and page layout.

Choose paginated PDF or a continuous full-page document
The ordinary /pdf endpoint is for normal paginated print output. It does not support a single continuous PDF page sized to the entire webpage height. If you specifically need a long, continuous page, use Browserless’s more flexible /function API and implement custom height calculation. That option requires custom browser logic rather than simply changing a normal /pdf setting. Consult the PDF API documentation for its guidance on this limitation.
Troubleshooting incomplete or unusable PDFs
- The response is not a PDF: Confirm the request targets the current
/pdfREST endpoint, usesPOST, includes a valid token query parameter, and sends JSON. Save the binary response body to a file. - The invoice is blank or missing fields: The page may render asynchronously. Add a wait for an invoice-specific element that appears after the content is ready; do not rely only on initial navigation completing.
- The site requires a login: Browserless can only render a page it can access using the authentication flow and session details you provide. The exact login or session approach depends on the invoice application; verify access before diagnosing PDF settings.
- The output splits content across pages: That is normal for paginated PDF output. Adjust paper format and margins if the print layout needs tuning. If the requirement is one continuous page for the full page height, implement the capture with
/function, not the standard/pdfroute. - Background colors or print details are missing: Review
printBackground,displayHeaderFooter, and the relevant paper and margin options in the PDF API documentation. - The PDF looks complete but GST status is uncertain: Browser rendering only saves what is displayed. Check invoice particulars against applicable requirements separately, and use the relevant GST e-invoice process if registration or validation is required.

Keep PDF capture separate from e-invoice integration
If the goal is to generate or register e-invoices rather than save an already displayed webpage, PDF capture is the wrong workflow. The GST e-Invoice Portal describes direct API integration as a separate process requiring GSTIN registration and distinct taxpayer and API-integrator users. It characterizes that integration as suited to taxpayers with internal IT teams, large transaction volumes, and real-time e-invoice generation. See the portal’s E-invoice API Integration guidance.
