To capture a Google results page set up for an Indian location, choose the city, query, Google domain and language or region preferences; run the search; then save a screenshot that includes the query and Google’s location explanation. This creates useful, documented evidence of the search context—not proof that Google treated the searcher as physically present in that city.
Set up the search you want to document
- Choose the context. Write down the Indian city or area, the exact query, the Google domain you will use, and the language and region preferences. Keep the same choices if you need to compare captures later.
- Check Search preferences. Open Google Search Settings and review the language and region controls available in your session. Google notes that its Search settings are being updated, so labels and interface details may vary. Record the settings actually shown rather than assuming a particular control is present.
- Decide how to handle browser location. In your browser’s site settings for google.com, check whether location permission is allowed or blocked. Allowing it may provide a device-location signal; blocking it avoids sending that permission-based signal. Neither choice guarantees that Google will use only, or disregard all, other location signals. Google says a stored device location may be used if a new location is delayed, and that cookie expires after six hours. See Google’s guidance on managing location when you search.
- Add a place when it belongs in the query. For a local-intent search, include the city or neighborhood if that reflects what you want to investigate—for example, “plumber in Pune.” Google recommends adding a location when nearby results are missing. This makes the place part of the query; it does not establish the searcher’s physical location.
- Run the search and inspect the location note. At the bottom of the results page, look for Google’s explanation of how it estimated your location. Possible sources it may identify include device location, internet address, home or work places, and past activity. Preserve that explanation with the screenshot.
Capture and label the results page
Use your browser’s screenshot feature or your operating system’s screenshot tool. Capture the query and Google’s location explanation in the same image when possible. If the full relevant page does not fit in one viewport, take overlapping screenshots so that important content is not omitted.

Alongside the image, record the date and time, requested city or area, Google domain, query, language and region settings, browser and device, location-permission state, and personalization state where visible. These details help another person interpret the capture; they do not make Google’s results perfectly repeatable.

A city in the query or a region preference alone cannot establish it.

What location-specific results do—and do not—mean
Google estimates Search location using multiple signals. Its help page says current location is used to provide more helpful results and explains that device location, IP address, places such as home or work, and past activity can contribute. An IP address can indicate general geography, and Google says it estimates the general area from which a person searches. Device-location permission is one input you can manage, not a switch that overrides every other signal.
Adding a city to a query and selecting language or region preferences can shape the search setup, but neither is a guarantee that Google evaluated the search as if the user were physically in that place. Record Google’s own location explanation and the settings visible during the session instead of treating the requested location as a verified result origin. Do not substitute an ad preview for an organic SERP
Google Ads location targeting and Ad Preview and Diagnosis are tools for advertising campaigns. Google Ads location targeting uses signals that can include device, IP address, settings and behavior; Google cautions that “100% accuracy is not guaranteed in every situation.” Those tools can help diagnose ads or campaign settings, but the available Google guidance does not establish that they produce an organic results page equivalent to a search made by a person physically in the selected Indian location. Label an ad preview as an ad preview, not as an organic Google SERP captured from that city. See Google Ads guidance on geographic targeting.

Common capture problems
- The results seem associated with the wrong city. Check Google’s location explanation at the bottom of the page. Google may be using a different available signal than the city you typed or the preference you selected; record what it reports rather than claiming the requested city was applied as physical location.
- Location permission is blocked, but results are still local. Permission controls whether the browser sends device location to google.com; it does not remove other location signals. IP address, account places or past activity may still contribute.
- The location appears not to update. Google says a previously obtained device location stored in a cookie can be used when a new location is delayed; that cookie expires after six hours. Review the browser’s location setting and the page’s location explanation, then record the state you observe.
- Language or region controls differ from a guide. Google says Search settings are being updated. Use the controls actually available in your session and note their labels and values.
- The screenshot omits the location note or lower results. Capture additional, overlapping screenshots and preserve enough context to connect them to the same query and session.
- You have an ad preview rather than organic results. Use ordinary Google Search for an organic SERP capture. Keep any Ad Preview and Diagnosis output clearly labeled as advertising diagnostics.
