It saves the entire page, including results below the visible viewport. Record the query, date and time, location or locale, and viewport with the image: a screenshot documents one viewing context, not a universal version of the SERP.
Capture the full Google results page in Chrome
- Open the exact results page. Search for the query you are auditing in Chrome. Keep the query wording and any relevant search settings consistent with the audit you intend to compare.
- Set a repeatable viewport if needed. Open Chrome DevTools, enable Device Mode, and select a device or configure a custom viewport. Device Mode includes a viewport selector and supports custom devices with a name, width, and height. See Chrome DevTools: Device Mode.
- Open DevTools’ More options menu. Choose Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome distinguishes this from Capture screenshot, which captures only the currently visible viewport. The full-size command includes content outside that viewport.
- Save and label the image. Use a descriptive filename, then record the query, capture date and time with time zone, location or locale, device or viewport, and any relevant account or personalization state in your audit notes.
- Check the result. Review the image for truncation, overlays, or content that had not finished loading. If you repeat the capture after the page renders, note what changed rather than treating the two images as identical observations.
Make screenshots useful evidence in an SEO audit
Google results can vary with query, place, device, time, and other circumstances. To make a comparison meaningful, keep the exact query wording, location or locale, and desktop or mobile viewport as consistent as possible. Label differences when those conditions cannot be matched. Also note the SERP features visible in the image; the screenshot records what appeared in that capture context, not every user’s results.

Chrome’s capture controls provide a way to save the page, but the documentation does not prescribe a standard metadata format for SERP audits. A dated filename plus a consistent audit note is a practical way to preserve the context a later reviewer needs.
Do not confuse a SERP screenshot with Search Console’s rendered-page screenshot
Search Console’s URL Inspection tool concerns a URL on your own site, not Google’s results page for a query. In a successful live test, View tested page can show a screenshot of the page Google retrieved and rendered, along with response and resource information. That helps diagnose how Google can render a specific page; it does not archive a SERP. Google also cautions that a positive eligibility result in a live test does not guarantee that the URL appears in Search results. Optional alternative: a browser extension
Chrome’s built-in DevTools command is sufficient for a full-page capture, so an extension is optional. GoFullPage is listed in the Chrome Web Store; its changelog says version 7.8, dated March 31, 2023, included capture improvements involving Google search. That listing does not establish that the extension is required or superior to DevTools.

Google’s Search guidelines say users are responsible for obtaining appropriate approval from third-party content owners for material shown in Google screenshots, such as content on image results pages. The guidance says Google’s permission is not required for Google Search screenshots used in print for educational or instructional purposes, and distinguishes those cases from advertisements and promotional materials. Check the current guidance against your intended use and obtain any relevant third-party rights.
