Reaching the bottom once is not enough: it may only trigger the next batch. No generic browser method can prove that it captured every comment if the site filters, hides, restricts, or changes what it displays.
Use a repeat-and-verify workflow
- Open the exact discussion and note its sort setting. If the page offers a choice such as newest, oldest, relevant, or all comments, record the selection. A relevance-oriented view may omit items from the visible list. The Piazza project’s documentation, for example, tells users of its supported Facebook and Instagram pages to select “All comments”; this is platform-specific guidance, not a universal rule. - Load the next batch. Scroll down far enough to trigger more content, then wait for the page to finish adding it. If a control such as “Load more comments,” “View more comments,” or “Load all” appears, activate it.
- Expand replies at every level. Look through each newly visible comment for “View replies,” “Show more replies,” or equivalent controls. Open them, wait for the replies, and inspect those replies for further controls. Top-level comments alone are not the full thread.
- Repeat until the page stops growing. Continue scrolling, waiting, loading, and expanding. Stop only when no further load or reply controls remain and the captured comment count has stopped increasing. A stalled page or time limit is a partial capture, not evidence that the thread is complete.
- Save a checkable result. Choose an export that preserves the detail you need. If you need to analyze or count comments, prefer a structured format when available; a saved page or web archive preserves a view but is not automatically a complete comment dataset.
Choose a method that fits the discussion
Before choosing a tool, check whether the platform offers documented pagination or export. Native pagination is often easier to audit than repeated scrolling: follow each page or cursor until the platform provides no next page or cursor. Otherwise, a browser-based method can reveal dynamically loaded content, but its completeness depends on whether it handles the platform’s controls and nested replies.

| Method | What the documentation describes | Important boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Platform-native pagination | GitHub CLI supports showing discussion comments, retrieving a reply thread, and continuing with an --after cursor. WordPress documents comment pagination links for sites configured to use them. |
These examples apply to their respective platforms and features; they are not a general method for unrelated discussion sites. GitHub CLI documentation · WordPress developer reference |
| Browser extension or page saver | The Spool Chrome Web Store listing describes a “Load all” action that scrolls and opens discovered reply controls, with Markdown, JSON, CSV, plain-text, and HTML exports. WebsiteArchiver documents scrolling to reveal content and an option to open all Reddit comments before saving. ArchiveWeb.page describes automated page behavior and scrolling for social media and infinite-scroll sites. | These are publisher-described capabilities, not independent completeness tests. Check current support for the specific site; layouts can change, and no tool should be assumed to capture every comment on every platform. | Manual browser workflow | Scroll, wait for batches, open every visible reply control, and verify that the page and item count stop growing. | It is practical for one-off captures but requires careful repetition and does not overcome hidden content, access restrictions, or site-imposed limits. |
GitHub Discussions
For a GitHub Discussion, use the documented gh discussion view options to show comments and retrieve a full reply thread. Where results are paginated, continue with the returned cursor using --after until there is no next cursor. Consult the GitHub CLI manual for the command’s current options and syntax; this is a GitHub-specific route, not a shortcut for other sites.
WordPress comment pagination
Some WordPress sites paginate comments rather than continuously loading them. The WordPress developer reference documents comment navigation links for sites using that feature. Follow the next-page links until no next page is available, and check whether replies are displayed on each page. WordPress developer reference

Browser tools and archives
Spool’s listing describes scrolling and opening discovered reply controls, with multiple export formats. WebsiteArchiver documents a Reddit-specific option to open all comments before saving. ArchiveWeb.page describes capture behavior intended in part for social-media and infinite-scroll pages. Treat each as a candidate to check against the current site, not as a guarantee of complete extraction: their documentation describes features, not comparative completeness testing.
Keep the result verifiable
Record enough context that someone can tell what the capture includes and how it ended. Counts shown by a platform may not match your export when comments are hidden, filtered, deleted, or inaccessible to your account.

- Intuitive interface of a conventional FTP client
- Easy and Reliable FTP Site Maintenance.
- FTP Automation and Synchronization
- Platform and exact discussion URL.
- Date captured and the selected comment sort.
- Whether you expanded nested replies and which export format you saved.
- Final captured item count, and whether the process stopped because no new content appeared or because it timed out or stalled.
- Any access limits, hidden branches, or controls you could not open.
Compare your result with a count shown by the site if one is available, but treat agreement as a useful check rather than proof: the platform’s count and your visible results may reflect different filtering or access rules.
Diagnose loading problems with the Network panel
If visible controls stop working or you need to understand how another batch loads, browser developer tools can help identify the requests triggered by the page. In Chrome DevTools, preserve the network log across page loads, activate a control that loads comments, and inspect the resulting requests. You can export a HAR for further analysis; Chrome documents sanitized export as the default and a separate option for sensitive-data export. WebKit Web Inspector also documents HAR export. A HAR records network activity—it is not itself a complete comment export—and may contain sensitive request information depending on the export settings. ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can capture a page as an image or PDF, but a screenshot is a visual capture—not a structured export of every comment. For an infinite-scroll thread, configure the capture to scroll and interact with the page, and verify the resulting capture; a screenshot alone does not establish that all comments or replies were loaded.
Example cURL request for a page capture (replace the example URL with the discussion URL):

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo removes supported cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

Does a screenshot prove that every comment was captured?
No. A screenshot shows the rendered page at capture time; it does not prove that every batch or nested reply was loaded.
Best Value
Is a HAR file a comment export?
No. It records network activity and can help diagnose loading behavior, but it is not a structured export of the comments.
