Save the image with the exact listing URL and capture date, then compare the same fields—price and shipping, options, description, shop identity, and date—across listings.
Capture the listing on Windows or Mac
- Open the Etsy listing in a desktop browser and wait until the details and images you need have loaded.
- Choose the area to preserve. Capture the relevant region or browser window for a focused record, or the whole screen if surrounding context matters.
- On Windows, open Snipping Tool and choose a region, window, or full-screen snip. Microsoft documents these capture modes in its Snipping Tool guide.
- On Mac, use a screenshot keyboard shortcut or open the Screenshot app; Apple documents both options in its Mac screenshot guide.
- Save the image, then record the exact listing URL and the date of capture in the filename or a companion note.
Capture content below the fold
A normal screen capture records only what is visible. If the listing’s description, options, or other relevant details continue below the viewport, use your browser’s full-page capture feature if it provides one. Browser controls and availability vary, so check the browser you use.

If full-page capture is unavailable or produces an unwieldy image, capture the relevant sections separately. Number the files in reading order—for example, item-2026-10-03-01.png, item-2026-10-03-02.png—and note what each one contains. Keep an untouched original; make highlights or annotations on a separate copy.

Make listing comparisons consistent
Use the same fields for every listing so differences reflect the listings rather than changes in your note-taking. Record what the capture actually shows separately from your interpretation.

Etsy describes its shops as independently operated and says sellers are responsible for their inventory and shipping. Retaining the shop context helps avoid treating a listing as if it came directly from Etsy as a single seller; see Etsy’s Intellectual Property Policy.
Keep research captures within their limits
A screenshot is a record of what appeared at a particular time, not a guarantee that the page, price, options, or availability will remain the same. Keep the source URL and date with the image so you or a later reader can revisit the listing.

Etsy’s Listing Image Requirements concern what sellers must submit for their own listings; they do not give other users a license to reuse those images. Etsy’s Terms say user-posted content remains the user’s content, and its Terms of Use state, “You understand that you are solely responsible for Your Content.” Treat research captures as private records and seek permission before public reuse. Etsy also says it cannot provide legal advice or make legal determinations about infringement in its Intellectual Property Policy.
