1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCapture Bing’s results page for the exact query you want to study, and record when and under what conditions you captured it. A screenshot is evidence of what appeared in one search session—not a permanent or universal ranking. For useful competitor comparisons, keep the query, market, language, device, and session context as consistent as possible.
Set up a repeatable Bing capture
Use a browser or your operating system’s ordinary screenshot function. The steps below describe a practical workflow, not Bing-specific keyboard shortcuts; the exact screenshot command depends on your browser, operating system, and device.

- Make a fixed query list. Include the exact high-intent and informational searches relevant to the competing pages. Preserve spelling and punctuation so later captures can be compared fairly.
- Choose and log the search context. Record the query, capture date and time (UTC where possible), country or location setting, language, desktop or mobile form factor, browser, and whether the session is signed in or otherwise personalized, if known. Bing says results can reflect freshness, location, language, device characteristics, and information specific to the user.
- Open Bing and run the query. Capture the visible page with the query and all results you intend to compare in view. If the page extends beyond the screen, take sequential screenshots with a small overlap; do not imply that one viewport image shows the entire page.
- Save the original unchanged. A consistent filename can be
YYYY-MM-DD_market_device_query-slug_01.png. Keep a separate index or spreadsheet with the full query and context, since a filename cannot preserve every relevant condition. - Repeat under matching conditions. Capture again on a schedule or after a meaningful change. Log any difference in market, language, device, or session instead of treating unlike captures as a clean before-and-after comparison.
What to record in each screenshot
Use a worksheet alongside the unaltered screenshot. Record the visible evidence, then add interpretation separately so annotations do not obscure the original.
Recommended Free Tools
- Visibility: competitor domain and page, plus its visible order in the captured page.
- Result treatment: organic listing, explicitly labeled paid placement, answer block, or another enhanced result. Bing ads are labeled; do not count a paid placement as an organic listing.
- Listing details: displayed title, URL or path where visible, and snippet. Bing describes snippets as previews intended to help searchers judge relevance.
- Page composition: visible news, image, video, shopping, answer, or other modules. These features are not interchangeable with a competitor’s organic position.
- Context and caveats: capture time, query, market, language, device, browser, and session information, plus anything that prevented a like-for-like comparison.
Turn captures into competitor analysis
Compare captures side by side only when their documented contexts are sufficiently similar. A simple observations table helps distinguish what the screenshot shows from what you want to investigate next.
| Observation | Useful follow-up question |
|---|---|
| The same competitor domain recurs for several queries. | Which pages recur, and do they serve similar or different search intents? |
| A competitor appears in an answer block or another enhanced feature. | What kind of information does that feature present, and how does it differ from standard web listings? |
| A listing’s title, snippet, or visible URL changes. | Does the new framing appear to address the query more directly, or has the visible page changed? |
| The page’s modules or visible result order differ between captures. | Were freshness, location, language, device, or user/session conditions different? |
Keep conclusions proportional to the evidence. Bing describes ranking as involving considerations such as relevance, quality and credibility, user engagement, freshness, and location or language; Microsoft also says their relative importance can vary by search and evolve over time. A screenshot cannot reveal Bing’s complete index, the exact ranking algorithm, or why a competitor appeared where it did.
Use Bing Webmaster Tools for your own site’s performance
Bing Webmaster Tools’ Search Performance report provides first-party performance information for the property managed by the account, including queries and pages, clicks, impressions, and average CTR. Its documentation describes average position for Web and Chat, up to six months of performance data, and CSV download. These metrics can help you examine your own site’s Bing performance; the report is not a way to capture competitors’ live SERPs.

Handle and publish screenshots carefully
Store only the captures your project needs, and follow your organization’s policies for third-party material. Microsoft’s Bing Search API display requirements apply to API responses and specify rules for copying, storage, caching, attribution, modification, display, transfer, and retention; do not assume those API-specific rules automatically govern ordinary manual screenshots of Bing.com. The reviewed material does not settle copyright, trademark, or permission questions for publishing manual SERP screenshots. If you plan commercial republication, check current applicable terms and get appropriate legal guidance.

If you publish an analysis, add original interpretation rather than presenting a thin page of competitor links. Bing’s Webmaster Guidelines warn that sites primarily redirecting users to retailers without original value, such as unique reviews or analysis, may face reduced visibility or removal.

Troubleshoot inconsistent captures
- The same query produces a different page: confirm the query text, time, location, language, device, browser, and session notes. Bing identifies freshness and user context among factors that can affect results; a difference alone does not establish its cause.
- A screenshot misses lower results: capture the page in sequential overlapping sections and label the sequence. Do not describe a viewport capture as a complete page.
- A result is difficult to classify: preserve what is visibly labeled and record the feature type separately. Do not assume an answer module, shopping result, or paid placement is an organic listing.
- Two captures are not comparable: flag the context difference in the worksheet and avoid using the pair as proof of a ranking trend.
Or skip the browser setup
For a programmatic capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts a URL in a GET request and returns an image or PDF. For example, this cURL request targets a Bing results URL; the API call itself does not document a way here to set the search location, language, device, or session, so do not treat it as equivalent to a carefully controlled manual capture. Confirm the returned page is the intended SERP before using it in an analysis. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation.

Can I treat one screenshot as proof of a competitor’s stable Bing ranking?
No. It records one observed page under one set of conditions; repeat comparable captures before describing a trend.
Rank #4
Does Bing Webmaster Tools show me competitors’ search performance?
No. Search Performance reports data for the property managed by the account, not competitors’ live results.
