To make music play reliably between episodes during a continuous YouTube Live broadcast, arrange the episode playback and music in the encoder or production system sending the live signal, then test and monitor the audio. A YouTube podcast playlist organizes published episodes; it does not create that live sequence.

How to play music between episodes in one continuous YouTube Live stream
- Build the sequence in your production workflow. Arrange the episode playback, music interlude, and next episode as sources or media in the encoder or live production system that sends the broadcast to YouTube. The sequence must be part of the outgoing live signal; adding videos to a podcast playlist alone will not insert the music.
- Check the music rights. Make sure you have the rights needed to use the selected music in your broadcast. A playlist or livestream setup does not itself grant permission to use a recording.
- Connect the production system to YouTube Live. Use YouTube’s encoder-based streaming workflow and the stream key for the intended live event. Keep the key private; anyone with access may be able to send a stream to your event.
- Run a test stream before the broadcast. Confirm the episodes and interlude play in the intended order, the music is audible, and transitions do not leave unintended silence or overlapping audio.
- Monitor the live audio and video while streaming. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends testing and ongoing monitoring. Watch and listen to the outgoing stream rather than relying only on what the production interface appears to show.
YouTube’s encoder guidance covers streaming and monitoring, but does not give a product-specific recipe for configuring episode-and-music interludes. The controls and exact steps therefore vary with the production software you use.

Why a podcast playlist, queue, or autoplay is not enough
Podcast playlists organize episodes
YouTube describes a podcast show as a playlist and its episodes as videos in that playlist. A podcast playlist is intended for full-length episodes arranged in listening order. It is an episode collection, not a documented way to insert a music bed between episodes. Some playlists may not qualify for podcast features, including playlists containing content the creator does not own. See YouTube’s podcast guidance.
Series playlists have a different purpose
A series playlist marks videos as an official set intended to be watched together. You need a verified account, and you may include only videos you uploaded and have rights to. The setting does not document automatic music insertion between videos. Details are in YouTube’s series playlist guidance.

Queues and autoplay are controlled by the viewer
A queue lets a viewer choose what plays next; on desktop it does not persist after the browser closes, and mobile queueing requires Premium. Autoplay may start a related video after the current one, but the setting varies by device, viewers can turn it off, and YouTube may pause autoplay after inactivity or ask whether the viewer is still watching. Neither feature can guarantee a creator-selected music interlude for every viewer. See YouTube’s queue guidance and autoplay guidance.
When Live Redirect is useful
Live Redirect can move viewers to a selected Premiere or another livestream after the current stream ends. It is useful for a handoff between separate broadcasts, not for playing music between episodes inside one continuous broadcast. YouTube requires creators sending redirects to have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. Redirecting viewers to another channel’s live stream also requires that channel’s permission. Review YouTube’s Live Redirect requirements and setup.
