Plan a capture in five steps
- Decide what area belongs in the image. Use the viewport for a fixed browser view; request full-page mode when the whole document is needed, allowing for the documented attempt-based behavior.
- Choose viewport dimensions and thumbnail width. Match the requested browser area to the layout you need, and constrain the width when producing a thumbnail.
- Add only page-specific rendering controls. Use CSS injection to alter the page’s appearance, or language, user-agent, readiness, and delay settings when the target page requires them.
- Choose whether cached output is acceptable. If the page has changed and a fresh capture is needed, use the documented
uniqueoption and confirm the exact syntax in the current quickstart. - Transform the returned image only if necessary. If the capture is correct but its dimensions or framing are not, crop or resize it afterward rather than changing the browser viewport blindly.
How to crop or resize a URL2PNG screenshot
There are two separate ways to change what a screenshot looks like. Capture settings—viewport, full-page mode, CSS, and readiness—change the page image produced by the browser. Image transformations act on the captured output, for example by cropping or resizing it, or adding borders, shadows, or overlays.
Cloudinary documents an optional URL2PNG add-on workflow that generates a screenshot and then applies image transformations. It is an adjacent workflow, not a requirement for URL2PNG capture. Cloudinary says add-on URLs are normally signed or eagerly generated unless an account setting is changed.
