To capture an Indian-language webpage correctly, let Chromium render the page with the intended fonts, wait for fonts and page content to load, then save and inspect the output at the required size. A screenshot records rendered pixels—not the page’s HTML source—so a missing font, fallback typeface, or capture taken too early can change how text appears.
What determines whether the text looks right?
Chromium captures what it has rendered. Its architecture documentation notes that font rendering can differ by platform; the same page may therefore look different across operating systems or browser environments. See the Chromium project’s overview of how Chromium displays web pages.

Three things matter in practice: the page’s language information, the fonts available to Chromium, and whether any web fonts have finished loading before capture. A CSS font-family declaration is a preference, not proof that the named font was used. Chrome’s DevTools font inspection guidance explains how to identify the rendered typeface. Chrome’s font settings documentation also describes script-sensitive font selection and the role of a page’s declared language: browser.fontSettings.

Record the browser and rendering conditions
Note the Chromium or Chrome version, operating system, viewport dimensions, and whether the page relies on local fonts, downloaded web fonts, or both. Platform differences can affect the rendered result, so these details help explain why captures from two machines may not match exactly.

Load the real page, not just its source
Open the target URL in Chromium and let its scripts run. A DOM dump is not an image of the rendered page: the Headless command-line reference explains that --dump-dom serializes the DOM after parsing and script execution, while a screenshot records the rendered view. Check the language and actual font
Where you control the page, ensure its language metadata accurately describes the content. In Chrome DevTools, inspect a representative text node and check the rendered font rather than relying only on the CSS family stack. If the intended font is unavailable, Chromium may use a fallback. Check that the fallback supports the characters and shaping needed by the page’s script.
Wait for text and content before capturing
Web fonts can load after the rest of a page. Depending on the page’s CSS and timing, text may initially be invisible or rendered in a fallback face. Chrome’s guidance on keeping text visible during web-font loading, updated April 2, 2024, describes the font-display options swap, optional, and fallback.

For a command-line capture, --timeout sets a maximum wait; it does not prove that a particular page’s fonts, scripts, or delayed content are ready. For a page you control through automation, wait for the browser’s font-loading state and any page-specific content that must appear. If you cannot establish readiness, inspect the output and retry rather than assuming that a longer timeout guarantees correct rendering.
Capture a viewport image or PDF from the command line
For an ordinary viewport screenshot, run this command, replacing the URL and adjusting the dimensions to your target:
chrome --headless --screenshot --window-size=1280,900 https://example.com/pageTo set a maximum wait, add a timeout in milliseconds, for example:

chrome --headless --timeout=10000 --screenshot --window-size=1280,900 https://example.com/pageUse the executable name available on your system; it may be chromium, chromium-browser, or google-chrome. The documented screenshot option writes screenshot.png. Confirm the supported flags against the installed browser’s documentation, since command-line behavior can vary by version. Save a PDF instead
For a printable document rather than a raster image, use:
chrome --headless --print-to-pdf https://example.com/pageA PDF and a screenshot serve different purposes: choose based on whether you need a fixed viewport image or a document laid out for pages. The command-line reference documents PDF output, but does not establish that it will preserve selectable text or produce a particular page layout for every site; check the generated file.

Capture the entire long page when needed
The documented Headless screenshot command is viewport-oriented. The reviewed official command-line reference does not document a dedicated full-page screenshot flag, so do not assume that making --window-size very tall guarantees a complete, correctly rendered long document.
If you need one image of the whole page, use an automation or capture workflow that explicitly supports full-page screenshots, then inspect the result. Pages may load additional content only after scrolling; sticky elements, lazy-loaded images, and clipping can also affect what appears. If one very tall image is unsuitable, capture deliberate sections instead.

Open the saved image at its intended dimensions and examine more than one representative line. Check for missing-glyph boxes, unexpected font changes, clipped marks, overlaps, altered line breaks, and content that should have appeared after scrolling. For text with conjuncts or diacritics, inspect those forms closely. If the font is wrong or absent, use DevTools to identify what rendered, check font availability and page language information, wait for font loading, and capture again.
A saved-page or archive format is a different workflow from taking a screenshot. Chromium’s September 2022 article about Freeze Dried Tabs describes preserving fonts used by captured pages in that feature. It is an architectural example, not a general guarantee that an arbitrary screenshot or saved page will include the fonts it needs.

Troubleshooting common capture issues
- Text is missing or appears as boxes: Check whether the font file loaded and whether the available fallback covers the page’s script. Inspect the rendered font in DevTools, then correct font availability or wait and capture again.
- The page uses an unexpected typeface: Check the CSS family stack and the actual rendered font. Confirm the page’s language metadata and the browser’s relevant script font settings.
- Text is blank or changes after capture: A web font may not have finished loading when Chromium took the screenshot. Wait for font readiness or a page-specific condition, then retry. The font-loading behavior and
font-displayoptions are covered in Chrome’s font-display guidance. - The screenshot cuts off the page: The basic Headless screenshot command captures a viewport; its documented options do not establish a full-page guarantee. Use a method with explicit full-page support or capture sections.
- Two computers produce different-looking text: Compare their operating systems, browser builds, installed fonts, and the page’s loaded font resources. Platform-dependent font rendering is described in the Chromium architecture overview.
- The capture finishes before dynamic content appears: A timeout is only a maximum wait, not a page-readiness test. Use an explicit readiness condition in automation, or verify the content in the output and retry.
