Screenshot Machine’s documented command-line example is a Bash script that uses curl to call its screenshot API; the reviewed official material does not establish a separate ScreenshotMachine CLI binary. To give JavaScript-driven content more time to appear, set the API’s delay parameter before capture, save the image, and inspect it. This is a fixed elapsed-time wait—not a signal that JavaScript, network activity, or page rendering has finished.
How do I wait for JavaScript to load before taking a screenshot?
Use Screenshot Machine’s HTTP API from Bash with curl. Its delay parameter controls how long the capture engine waits before creating the screenshot. The documented default is 200 milliseconds; the official sample uses 2,000 milliseconds. A longer wait can help with client-side rendering, animation, and late-loading images, but it cannot guarantee that all asynchronous work is complete.
The official API documentation describes an HTTP request and provides a Bash example; it does not document a separately installed CLI executable. The example below follows that approach, with placeholder credentials. Replace the target URL and set a customer key before running it.

Keep your customer key and any secret phrase out of public repositories and browser-side code. When a secret phrase is enabled in account settings, the documented request uses an MD5 hash of the URL value concatenated with the secret phrase; requests with a missing or incorrect hash are ignored.

Tune the wait by checking the image
- Start with the page URL and a customer key. The key is required for API requests.
- Choose a viewport and device mode that match the intended result. The sample uses
1366x768anddesktop. - Set
DELAYto a supported value. The documented choices are 0, 200, 400, 600, 800, 1,000, then 2,000 through 10,000 milliseconds in 1,000-millisecond increments. - Run the request and inspect
output.pngfor the content that appears after JavaScript runs. - If content is missing, try a longer documented delay and capture again. Compare the resulting images rather than treating any value as a readiness guarantee.
Longer waits add time to each capture. Screenshot Machine’s documentation recommends more delay—such as 2,000 milliseconds or more—for long full-page captures containing images or animations. That is practical tuning advice, not proof that every image or script has finished.
How can I take a full-page screenshot after the page finishes loading?
Set dimension to a width and full, for example 1366xfull, then allow extra time if the page loads content farther down as it renders or scrolls. Full-page capture and a delay can improve the chance that late content is present, but Screenshot Machine documents the delay as elapsed time, not as a “page finished loading” condition.

The API documentation gives a width range of 100–1,920 pixels and a height range of 100–9,999 pixels, or full for a full-length screenshot. It lists device choices as desktop, phone, and tablet; example dimensions are 1024×768, 480×800, and 800×1280 respectively. Use dimensions appropriate to the page layout you want to inspect.

The official example uses --data-urlencode for each parameter. Keep that pattern: it handles URL encoding for values that contain reserved characters. This matters for target URLs and CSS selectors, especially selectors containing #.

What should I check when a screenshot is wrong or the request fails?
- The image shows a loading state or misses content: Increase
delayusing a documented value, then inspect another capture. If the content still does not appear, check whether the page needs authentication, cookies, a click, or another supported input. The reviewed documentation does not describe a selector-wait or network-idle option. - The URL or selector behaves unexpectedly: Pass parameters through
--data-urlencode. Reserved characters can change how query parameters are interpreted if they are not encoded. - The call returns an error image: Screenshot Machine says invalid or incomplete requests return an error image and an
X-Screenshotmachine-Responseheader with an error code. Check that header and verify the key and URL first. - The header reports
invalid_keyormissing_key: Check that the customer key is present and correct. - The header reports
invalid_urlormissing_url: Check that the URL is present and valid, and that it is passed as one encoded parameter. - The header reports
