To capture a website through a proxy with ScreenshotOne, pass an externally supplied HTTP proxy URL in the proxy option of a ScreenshotOne /take request. Include the target page’s url and your API access key. A proxy is most useful when routing or location may explain a capture failure; it adds latency and will not fix every kind of error.
What you need before making the request
- A ScreenshotOne API access key.
- An HTTP proxy endpoint from an external proxy provider. ScreenshotOne names Decodo, Bright Data and Geonode as examples, not as endorsements. Its guide says rotating residential proxies are not included with ScreenshotOne.
- The target website URL and, if regional content matters, a deliberate proxy location.

Make a ScreenshotOne request through the proxy
Use ScreenshotOne’s HTTPS API endpoint and set proxy to the HTTP proxy URL. The API request itself should use HTTPS; the custom proxy option supports HTTP proxies only. Encode query parameter values when constructing a GET URL.

How the options interact
proxyroutes the capture through the specified HTTP proxy.- A custom
proxytakes precedence overip_country_code. Choose the proxy’s location deliberately rather than expecting the country option to override it. - For regional pages that vary by more than IP country, ScreenshotOne advises considering language and time-zone preferences as well.
proxy_bypass_hostscan send selected hostnames directly through ScreenshotOne’s network while the rest of the page uses the proxy. Supply hostname patterns, not full URLs. This can suit static assets that do not need the proxy IP or location.

When to use a proxy—and when not to
Try proxy routing when a network error, a selected error returned by the target host, or a known block-page marker suggests the request’s route or IP may be relevant. A proxy does not guarantee that a site will permit a capture, and it should not be treated as a general way to defeat bot checks or CAPTCHA challenges.
Skip the proxy when there is no routing or location reason to use one: ScreenshotOne warns that it makes requests slower. Avoid sending many parallel captures through one proxy, too; ScreenshotOne says that can slow requests and increase timeouts or other errors. Where the provider allows it, separate ports or proxies may help distribute requests.
