1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo prevent a sticky header or floating control from appearing repeatedly in an automated full-page screenshot, hide or restyle that specific element with Playwright’s screenshot-time style option, then capture with fullPage: true. The right selector and treatment depend on the page: you may want to omit the element, change its positioning, or capture just one component. Inspect the finished image rather than assuming every browser and page handles sticky UI identically.
Why sticky elements can show up more than once
A full-page screenshot captures content beyond the visible viewport. Sticky and fixed elements have special relationships to scrolling: a sticky element stays in its normal flow until it reaches a specified inset threshold, then sticks within its scroll area; a fixed element can remain in the same position relative to the viewport while scrolling. These behaviors help explain why some capture methods can produce repeated persistent UI, but duplication is not universal across browsers or screenshot engines. Treat it as an interaction between the page and capture method, and verify the output. MDN’s CSS position reference notes that sticky positioning needs at least one inset, such as top, to behave as expected.
Use Playwright to capture the full page without the repeated UI
Playwright’s Page screenshot API provides fullPage to capture the full scrollable page and style to apply CSS just while taking the screenshot. The screenshot-time style reaches Shadow DOM and inner frames, according to the Playwright API documentation. The style option was added in Playwright v1.41.
1. Identify the element and choose what should happen to it
Inspect the page in browser developer tools and find a selector that targets only the sticky header, navigation bar, or floating control in question. A selector like header.site-header below is an example, not a universal class name. If the element should not appear in the image, hide it. If it should appear once at the top, try changing its positioning instead—but that can change layout, so check the result against your intended image.

await page.screenshot({
path: 'page.png',
fullPage: true,
style: `header.site-header { display: none !important; }`,
});
Replace the example selector with the one you inspected on the target page. fullPage: true captures the full scrollable page rather than only the current viewport; style applies the CSS for the screenshot. See the Playwright Page API for the current screenshot options and details.

3. Review the image
- Confirm that the repeated header or control is gone.
- Check that the stylesheet did not hide other content or leave an unwanted gap.
- If you changed positioning to show the header once, confirm that the page layout still matches the intended result.
- Check long pages and pages with nested scroll areas; the correct selector and visual result are page-specific.
Use Firefox when you want a manual full-page or node capture
Firefox Developer Tools documents both full-page screenshots and screenshots of individual nodes. For the full page, use the screenshot control; if it is not available in the toolbar, enable “Take a screenshot of the entire page” under Settings > Available Toolbox Buttons. To capture a component, right-click its node in the Inspector’s HTML pane and choose Screenshot Node. Firefox’s Web Console also supports :screenshot --fullpage and --selector for full-page and selector-based captures. See Firefox’s screenshot documentation for the steps and options.
A node capture is useful when the component itself is the subject and does not require capturing the whole document. For a repeatable full-page workflow where persistent UI must be removed or changed, screenshot-time CSS offers direct control over the target element.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return an image or PDF; its clean-shot options accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Each clean-up step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing; response headers report the page verdict and whether the request was billed. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and other MCP clients. The example below captures a page; adapt the URL and output filename to your use.

Troubleshooting a repeated or altered screenshot
- The header still appears repeatedly: The selector may not match the actual element, or may target only part of the navigation. Inspect the page and adjust the selector, then capture again.
- Other page content disappears: The selector is too broad. Narrow it to the specific sticky element rather than a generic container used by the page.
- Hiding the header leaves an awkward gap: Hiding an element can affect the layout. If you need the content to flow into that space, test a different style; if you want the header visible once, test a positioning change and inspect the result.
- The page uses embedded content: Playwright documents screenshot-time styles as applying to inner frames and piercing Shadow DOM, but the selector still needs to match the relevant element. Verify the captured image.
- Firefox’s full-page screenshot control is missing: Enable “Take a screenshot of the entire page” in Settings > Available Toolbox Buttons.
Official documentation describes the available capture features; it does not establish uniform sticky-element behavior on every page and capture engine. No cross-browser benchmark is established here, so judge the result from the actual image.
