Configure locale before opening the page
Playwright’s locale setting affects navigator.language, the Accept-Language request header, and number and date formatting rules. Set it when creating the browser context so it is in place before navigation. Playwright documents the context options in its locale and timezone emulation guide and BrowserContext options reference.

In a test, use the same locale and timezone on the test context or in the relevant Playwright test configuration. The setting must be applied before the site is loaded; creating a differently configured context after navigation will not retroactively change the initial request.

Keep locale, timezone, and test-runner time distinct
Locale
Use a locale tag such as en-GB or de-DE. It controls browser language signals and locale-sensitive number and date formatting as documented by Playwright. It does not itself select a website’s translation.
Browser timezone
Set timezoneId separately when the browser-visible date or time depends on a zone, for example Europe/Berlin. Playwright documents timezone emulation as a separate option from locale in its emulation guide.

Test-runner timezone
Browser timezone emulation does not change the timezone of the test runner. If test code itself calculates dates in a particular timezone, configure the runner environment separately—for example, with the TZ environment variable where supported—and keep that distinct from the browser context’s timezoneId.

Navigate only after configuring the context, then wait for the page state that matters to your evidence. There is no single wait rule that makes every site stable: choose a readiness condition suited to the page, such as waiting for a specific selector or for content your documentation needs to appear.

fullPage: truewhen the documentation needs the page beyond the visible viewport. - Keep viewport, browser engine, locale, timezone, and navigation state consistent across a series of images.
- For dynamic elements, Playwright’s screenshot API supports injected styles that can mask or suppress content for more repeatable captures.
Playwright documents page capture options in its Page screenshot API. Puppeteer also documents page screenshots and element screenshots in its screenshots guide. The available documentation establishes those capture methods, but does not provide a locale setup procedure for Puppeteer here; check the API documentation for the exact installed version before adopting it for locale-specific captures.
Verify the site actually used the locale
Browser emulation supplies language, request-header, formatting, and timezone signals. A website can still choose its own language or regional experience using account settings, cookies, the URL, location, or application logic. Inspect the resulting page and, when relevant, verify the response or rendered content rather than treating the configured locale as proof of translation.

Troubleshoot common mismatches
- The page remains in another language: Confirm the context’s
localewas set beforepage.goto(). Then check whether the site uses an account preference, cookie, URL, or application-specific language selector. - Dates or times differ from expectation: Set
timezoneIdindependently oflocale. If test code computes dates, remember the runner timezone is separate from the browser’s emulated timezone. - Numbers or dates use unexpected conventions: Verify the locale tag and inspect the page’s actual output. Locale affects browser formatting signals, but the site can implement its own formatting.
- Repeated screenshots do not match: Hold the viewport, browser engine, locale, timezone, and navigation state steady; wait for the specific content needed and use screenshot styles to manage dynamic elements where appropriate.
- An element is missing from a full-page image: Confirm it has loaded and is in the expected page state before capture. A full-page option changes the captured extent; it does not ensure the site’s content has finished rendering.
